I spent yesterday and today detailing my dad's truck. The truck is nearly 10 years old and has never really had a good polish. It gets a lot of use out in the woods when we go fishing, it's usually parked outside, and I'm sure it's been run through many car washes.

I'm looking for some opinions. I used Optimum Compound on a Lake Country orange pad and made two passes, and then went back with Optimum Polish on a Lake Country white pad and wasn't happy with the results. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a rotary to take the paint to the next level? The truck also has a lot of scratches that I knew wouldn't come out, so I wasn't worried about those.

Interior was just a vacuum and wipe down.

Onto the pics...

This was the best pic I could get of the paint...and this was after two passes w/ OC and one pass w/ OP...what am I doing wrong?

You're probably not doing anything wrong - it looks 85% of the way there as it is, and the Optimum products via PC aren't that aggressive. GM clear is hard too.

It's just gonna take a while to perfect a truck like that via PC, I would wager on 5+ passes over the whole truck.

IMO, these trucks (00-04) have hard clear. And as mentioned, OC is too aggressive. I have had good luck with 4" pads and Hitemp heavy cut in the past. However, a rotary will speed it up considerably.

Looks good! Get my number from Lee or PM me and I'll give you some pointers about OC/OP. As previous posters have stated OC and OP work best when worked with a rotary.

I think switching to some Menzerna 106ff would help a little...it helps with those extr hard ceramic clears...

Yeah, I need to expand my product lineup. It's all Optimum/Meguiar's stuff right now.
