987 Boxster

It's a nice day and having had some plans cancelled I decided to give the Boxster a thorough going over.

I've been meaning to try some Fire Glaze on it so the first thing was to remove the existing layers of Victoria Concours.

First though to clean the wheels, the job I simply hate. Tyres were sprayed with APC and scrubbed, wheels were sprayed with Einszett Acid Free Wheel Cleaner, the inside faces cleaned with a Vikan Wheel Brush and the external face cleaned with an Autoglym Wheel Brush and a Sheepskin mitt used to get round the edges/back of the spokes.

I decided the best way to remove the existing wax would be to soak the bodywork with Meguiars APC cut approx 5:1, let it soak for a few minutes then rinse it off.

I was quite surprised when I rinsed it off as the paint actually felt greasy to the touch, almost as if the APC had started to dissolve the wax but not quite, so perhaps I was too cautious and didn't leave it long enough.

Anyway the next step was a two bucket wash with a ShMITT and a solution of warm water and Fairy Liquid. I was actually shocked how smooth and slippery this combination was considering if you believe everything you read you may as well just pour Nitromors on the paint.

So, wash done I dried off the car, Sonus Ultimate drying towel (an older 16" x 16" towel for the wheels) and lots of Chemical Guys Extreme Synthetic QD.

I then gave the wheels a coat of Autoglym SRP and left them whilst I concentrated on the body work.

Out came the Fire Glaze.

The instructions are to cut the product into the paint so it disappears and to then apply a second coat and let it dry to a haze, which is what I did using Sonus Der Wunder orange applicators.

The product goes on easily enough though I did go through a few applicators, which I suspect was me using too much product.

I can honestly say the paint was squeaking after the first layer. The test will be seeing how the product holds up over time.

Whilst waiting for the second layer of Fire Glaze to haze I went round the wheels and removed the now cured SRP and gave the tyres a spray of Einszett Tyre Foam. Not sure I'll ever find a tyre dressing that just makes tyres look like dull but clean black rubber?

I then did the interior. Not much to do tbh, just a quick going over with a microfiber and a spot of Einszett Cockpit Premium. I love this product as it cleans, dries with no residue at all, and leaves a totally dull matte factory finish just as Ze Germans intended :)

So some pictures.

Unfortunately my photographic skills aren't up to much but I've found with metallic grey it's difficult to show much other than a blob of grey metal, and everyone knows what a Boxster looks like so I've tried to get some angles to show reflections/flake.

They aren't in any particular order as I didn't take any during pics just afters.
