The detail of this 1997 F355 Spider was completed over the course of a couple of days. The first day was just correct the hood. Apparently the car has had some paint work and it looked liked someone wetsanded the passenger side of the hood and never buffed it out! After talking with the owner of the car, we arranged to have the rest of the car detailed. Due to the shop performing some work I revisited the car two more times finally finishing today (Wednesday). I really didn’t bother with before (besides the hood shots below) since the car swirling was not that bad at all. The challenges the car presented resided from the massive overspray that contaminated the paint of the entire car, creating dullness. The interior needed some love as well, but I forgot to take before pics of that. Spent close to 14 hours on the car total. A LOT of time was spent claying to try and remove the landed overspray.

Process:

Hood:

EC with Foamed Wool @ 1800rpms

Menz SIP with Orange Cut @ 1500rpms

Menz 106FF with green CSS @ 1500rpms

Rest of the car:

Since car was relatively clean, I qd’ed and proceeded to clay.

More clay, more clay.

Then polished with Menz SIP and Polish Pad @ 1500rpms

Followed with Menz 106FF and Green CSS pad @ 1500rpms

Washed to remove dusting and cleaned wheels

Zymol Ital Applied by hand.

Tires dressed with Z16

Glass cleaned with IG and followed with FK425

Interior:

Vacuumed

Leather and carpets cleaned with Folex.

Leather treated with Z10 twice (two different days)

Plastic, vinyl, dash, etc treated with 303.

Here are the pics! ( I took a bunch since I provide the link to the owners of the car. If they pick out a few, I usually send them full-resolution shots.)

Hood Before (The heavy sanding marks from the body shop):

Hood Center Before ( Swirls and marring):

Bunch of After Shots:

The Sun was in and out the entire time I was shooting pics, hence the different lighting and color changes in the paint! :(

The paint looks absolutely flawless!!! Great color too, first metallic blue Ferrari I've ever seen.

wow, that is a textbook perfect correction. the reflections in the 4th picture are amazing, not to mention the rest of the shots you took.

i've never liked an Italian car in blue until now!

Why the did you choose to use the EC then SIP, what about using just SIP and foamed wool (Purple) then 106ff to finish???

Cheers,

Cheers,

I used EC with wool and then SIP for only the hood area with sanding marks. The sanding marks were pretty rough and I do not think SIP with wool would have been as effective or quick. I followed the EC w/wool with SIP to remove any remaining minor marring and holo's from the previous step.

JW? What's that?

I charge the same no matter what vehicle...$50 an hour.

Maybe she's Just Wondering? I don't know if that's what JW means?

Okay, I have a question . . . what is your technique for polishing the slats on the rear decklid without getting any polish/splatter in the engine bay? The challenge grille sure makes the arse end easier to do :-)

I had the opportunity to purchase this model a few years back. I'm still kicking myself for not springing for it. Now, I'm lucky if I get my Boxster S. If only . . . Oh yeah, is that the TDF Blue? I was going to get that color. If only . . . :aww:

Great work Chris! I love the 355's! Probably one of my favortie models of all time, a perfect blend of classic Ferrari and modern technology. Great pictures and awesome job!!!

Unbelievable work Chris. I love the finish you were able to achieve on that great paint color. Do you know if that is stock? The Zymol looks beautifully wet as well.

The rear slats were poilshed by hand as best as I could. When machine polishing the quarter panels I layed towel down over the vents to help reduce the dusting that got in the engine bay. The blue is I believe referred to as "Swaters." As far as I know this was a factory optioned color.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
