First paid detail of the year, hoping for 10 more. Coworker's car that I'd been trying to get scheduled since October. This car's paint was absolutely trashed! Extremely neglected and outright abused. Lots of deep scratches from being a DD for 20 years and being on the 3rd owner. Plent of major defects that won't polish out. Perfection was not obtainable without a repaint, but the owner doesn't have the dough for a full restoration, so I offered to do my best to make this once proud machine look at least somewhat respectable.
Started with the finish kare decon kit. It doesn't turn colors, so I sprayed Sonax fallout remover to be sure... The FK kit took care of all the iron, as the fallout cleaner didn't bleed a bit. That said, the paint was still rough. I purchased a nanoskin 6" DA medium pad at the last minute, which ended up being a great purchase. This thing is awesome!!! Used UWW detail spray as lube and used my Rupes 15 on speed 3 with 2 passes per section. Very quickly, the paint was like glass, so smooth! That said, I did notice some marring, but that's fine since I was polishing anyway.
Before:

These before pics were from a couple months ago, with the middle of the trunk lid bei my test spot. Shows how trashed that paint really was. Lighting was terrible and I forgot my camera, so had to make do with my phone today. Plan to get some better pics in the parking lot at work tomorrow or the next day.

The wheels were pretty gross. Had to Sonax them twice
The roof and trunk lid had MAJOR oxidation. I initially thought it was CC failure but polished resulted in no black on my pad, so that was good news. However, it was brutally hard to correct. Wool with a combo of HD Cut and M101 made only incremental improvement at 1800rpm and 5 passes. After trying a couple of things, I paired the purple kompressor pad with M101 straight and this worked very well. I was limited on time for today, so I compounded the trunk lid twice- which resulted in a good turnaround, and the roof only once. The roof needs more work, but it's certainly better than it was. I followed up on the trunk lid and roof with the R21 with a MF pad and HD Cut. I was very pleased with the turnaround on the trunk. It looks like glossy paint again! Even if it's not perfect...

ABOVE:Not a good pic. The shine of the paint on the far end is how it all looks. Not sure why the rest looks so flat in the pic.
As for the rest of the car, I used the R21 with the MF cutting pad and HD Adapt with nice results. My phone doesn't do justice to how poor the paint really looked before.

After polishing with MF, I really wanted to follow up with another polishing step, but was running out of time for the day. So, I polished the rear drivers side door with WG FG and HD polish on the HD cyan pad, as an example to the owner of what I can make the car look like with a little more time. Additionally, I applied Fuzion to this panel.
After polishing, I did an IPA wipe before machine applying Deep Gloss sealant. While waiting for it to haze, I cleaned the tires twice with Tarminator before dressing 3x's with Black Diamond. After buffing off WGDGPS, I applied Fuzion to the one panel.
The owner was shocked! I couldn't stress enough that the car needs more time polishing, but he'd had a couple "detailers" try to get the luster back to the roof and hood and they couldn't make any headway. He said he'd never seen his reflection in that car before.
Cant wait to see it in the sunlight tomorrow, as it was dark out when I finished.

Thanks for looking!
