Co-worker of mine bought a used 1993 ( I believe that is the correct year) MR2 T-Top Turbo with 53k in black. After only one year he has only has put 2k miles on it. It is a MAJOR Garage Queen! Last year when he first got it, I detailed it using the PC with Orange cut pad with 1Z UPP, then 1ZPP, P21S. Last year was the first year I truely started to get into detailing thanks to AUtopia. Well over a year I have aquired alot more products and skill and did the MR2 again. Swirls werent too bad but somewhat moderate.

Process:

Wash with NXT

Clay with Sonus Clay

Polished the car with Menzerna IP via Rotary @1500 Rpms with Orange cut pad

Used PC via orange pad at 6 for some area where I got holograms.

Then Menzerna FPII via rotary @1500 Rpms with white polish pad.

Applied Pinnacle Souveran by hand! (First time using Souve!!) :bounce

Tires got NXT insane shine via tire wipe applicator.

Wheel wells dressed with AA

Here is the results (by the way Souve on black, OH MY GOD!) :shocked

The hood and front bumper suffers from road rash pretty bad when looking at it closely. But other than that the car is in perfect condition, and the interior is immaculate!

Fun car to drive too!

The hood shot where the nose of the MR2 is partially sticking out of the garage is beautiful. As your details show, prep. work is everything! Have you used other paste waxes on black that come close to the look of Souveran? :2thumbs:

Dude, where did you come from?

All of a sudden you have like 6 great looking details :D.

This one is no different!

I love the Sonus buffing towel. Real expensive but My absolute favorite. GSRstilez, I have been real busy with everything and did all the details in the course of the week and hadnt had a chance to post any of them. So I finally got time to doing them yesterday/this morning. :)

Caraman-- I think P21S/S100 has the closest look. Souve IMO is deeper and wetter. I can tell the difference. But some people cant.

Awesome! I love MR2s! As hard as it is to maintain a perfect black car, I almost want one now. :) Then I would need some Souveran though!

I've been searching for a black turbo mr2 with low miles and t-tops... beautiful car! Nice detail... how was the paint to work with? Definatley made it look great!

The Paint is single stage and was tougher than I had anticipated especially being black single stage. There were just certain area that some light swirls did want to come out and some hazing that would go away. This upon real close inspection. Past 4 ft away you cant really see any of the defects im talking about except the road rash on the hood and front bumper. The biggest PITA was the rear end with all the little vents and spoiler to work around!!

It was the first time using souve and I love the stuff. Easy on easy off, smells good. Leaves just a slight dusting ( i think I used a little too much) other than that the results after application is immediately noticible.

Oh, to those who want to justify price, I used an application on this car and it doesnt even seem that I used any from the jar. I imagine with correct application you could do close to 40 or more cars with this jar.

Too bad the current gen. is being killed by the end of this year. Along with the Celica. So Supra, MR2 & Celica...

Looks great! How do we know if it's single stage? Somebody told me if you rubbed a paint cleaner and the color of the car comes off, it's single stage. Yet I see many older Toyotas having single stage. Even heard a 1999 GS300 having them. But it seems mine (1995 Camry in dark green) has clear coat. So how do we tell?

Your method of rubbing a cleaner product against the paint and having paint transfer is the best indication of it being single stage. Sometimes different colors certain manufactures used single stage even up to year 2000 and newer.

All black and red MR2's of that era were single stage. Any metalic color was clear coated from the factory.
