91 vett

Need some advice here guy's. I will be getting a 91 white vett to do in the next week or two, anybody have any experience on how the clear is on this year car.Tried a small test spot with m105 and my flex with a meg's burgundy pad made only 2 pass's didn't seem to do a whole lot then again this has a good amount of swirls. so any advice anyone has please post up.

thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, every Corvette we do gets a 3 stage machine polish. The clearcoat is hard as a rock, and the fiberglass doesn't heat up very well either making for a very slow correction. I usually recommend starting with a purple foam wool pad and powergloss, then finish down from there with SIP and orange, then super finish and white pad. All of these compounds are Menzerna. I hope this helps.

ok thanks i don't have powergloss but do have m105 some ip.106 also some 3m swirl remover . guess ill break out the rotary for this one and either a green or yellow edge wool pad . then finish down with either 205 or 106 being it's white i don't think ill need to go 3 steps but i may have to if enough of the swirls come out in the first and second stages.

Try some Surbuf pads with 105 on your PC..then 90% of the time, I will then go to 106 and finish down with the rotary cause I prefer the finish. But, I did a yellow Z06 several weeks back and got it near perfect in around 13-14 hours with interior, polishing, etc.

DJ or anybody who see's this what are the chances of a 91 vette not having clear on it Could it be a SS paint job?I couldn't really tell when i tried a test spot because the polish is white too. guess ill have to try a mez 106 polish and a dark colored pad

I just buffed out a 2000 vette and I used 5.5 surbuff pads with Megs UC followed by Megs D151 on a green Uber pad. Removed all swirls and 98% of the RIDS. AS this is basically a daily driver we did not go for perfection

Should be base coat clear coat. Like John said it is very hard and not easily corrected. If it is bad I usually start with some 3m medium compound and then follow up with Menzerna ceramic polish, eithet 85rd or 106fa.
