1991 Nissan Maxima.

White with grey cloth interior.

~225,000 Miles.

This car belongs to a buddy at work. He has had this car for some time. The car was with him in Germany when he was stationed there. It is his daily driver and sits outside all the time.

I started on the car Monday at about 8am. I started out with great expectations. I ended up spending several hours just washing the wheels. I did not get done with the wash / clay / wash process until about 12 o'clock. Tuesday was slow going due to problems and diversions. I finished up on Wednesday morning. I’m thankful the owner was not in a hurry. Thanks Rodger for being patient and understanding.

Final process was:

Exterior.

-Wash with Megs Gold Class and a light sheepskin mit.

-Spot wash with some 777 APC, cut 10:1.

-Clay with Clay Magic.

-Wash again.

-Scrub wheels and wheel wells with 777 APC.

-Scrub wheel openings with a small, toothbrush sized soft brass brush to remove set-in dirt / brake dust.

-Polish exterior with Poorboys SSR 2.5 (x2) using an Orange pad on the Porter Cable set at a speed of “6.

-50/50 IPA/Water wipe down.

-Poorboys EX (Sealant with Carnauba)

-Duragloss Aquawax topper. (This stuff makes the car super slick)

Interior got:

--Steamer. (Thanks for the loan Bryan)

--777 (10:1) wipe down.

--Bissell Little Green Clean Machine. (Not overly impressed)

Seats and carpet got

--Bissell Spot Treatment / 777 with Aqua brush on the PC.

--Extract with Ridgid Wet / Dry wall mount vac with filter removed.

--Remove tint on the side windows at owner’s request. (I left the back for the professionals due to the defroster.)

--Scotchgaurd upholstery at owner’s request.

--Vacuum trunk.

--Clean door jambs and seals.

--303 Aerospace Protectant.

Glass got 0000 steel wool and Stoner IG from the pump bottle.

Tires got 303 (x2).

Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Subject vehicle.

The rest of the wheel is clean. There are twelve of these per wheel.

Before.

After much scrubbage.

Left side tint removed.

Left light reflection is the polished area, right side is not.

There is still some heavy scratches / marring that I won't be getting out.

I love seeing makeovers on high-mileage vehicles!

You sure did a nice job on it! That passenger seat doesn't look toxic any more ;)

Thanks everyone.

It was a tough go especially at first.

While I am disappointed about not being able to do much with the marring, I am pleased at the way the rest of the car turned out. I kept finding stuff inside on the carpet. :nixweiss I told the owner to check it over real good and bring it back to me to touch up whatever he finds.

I enjoyed making the turn around on this one.

Nice job on the 3rd Gen. The main reason that 2.5 didn't do much on it was that 2.5 lacks the sufficient cutting power on the 3rd Gen's clearcoat because it's harder than the successive generations (2.5 works well on 4th gens and 5th gens). You might have needed to go to 3 and then down to 2.5 and then 1.

3M Light Cut Rubbing compound works as would Menzerna Power Gloss or Optimum Compound.

Thanks for the kind words and tips.

At one point I did try the OC, but I did not notice any difference. Perhaps I should have tried it a little longer. :think2

Wow, beautiful transformation. I admire your persistence on those wheels. I had a Maxima once and those things are a real PIA to clean. And at a dozen per wheel.. :bow

Plus you got the Poppy stain out of the seat.

The owner had stopped by during the process and was amazed at the wheels. He could not believe that I spent that kind of time to get them that clean. I could not either, but I could not let it go without at least trying.

If someone brought me that car, I'd run in the other direction! Absolutely stunning turnaround!!!! Great work!!!! WOW!

:chuckle: :chuckle:

That is the (dis) advantage of being inexperienced - I did'nt know I should have run. :chuckle:

j/k - I have done some cars / trucks that you don't SEE the change. While I felt good about what I did, it is not the same as seeing the transformation like this and giving yourself a little thumbs up. :2thumbs:
