845 all year??

I layed down 845 (x3) on the DD as part of last fall's detail and after a Chicago winter I can state that I am more than impressed with 845's durability and continued great look. I washed the DD this past week and the protection is still solid and it continues to look fantastic (see pix below). Also, after taking a look at my finish under the sun last week there are so few marks in the clear I am not sure if it is due to the 845 barrier or maybe I have finally somewhat mastered the proper wash technique (probably a combination of both). She was washed ~ every 10 days over the past 4+ months.

For the upcoming spring detail I was planning on trying out the new Menzerna Power Lock and topping with CG's 50/50, but I am really considering staying with 845 year round (maybe top with 50/50 for a little extra summer "pop").

Common sense tells me that if it's not broken, don't fix it, but I love trying out new sealant/wax combos.

Anyone run 845 year round and like the results? Do you top 845, if so what do you use?

Thanks!

If you're simply looking for durability, I recommend stick with the Collinite. Otherwise go with Menz. and 50/50 if you're looking for a better shine this summer. I haven't tried the new Powerlock, so I really can't say what the durability is, but if it's anything like FMJ, it's just a sealant to layer a wax on top of.

I use it year round. In terms of protection from bugs, sap, grime, it's top notch. I think it looks pretty darn good on my platinum grey too.

I maintain with Megs UQW and love the look.

This Collinite 845 I keep hearing about, is it better for black or just durable on everything, and if you use 845, what sealer do you lay underneath?

I've been trying new stuff and coming back to 845 year-round for almost 30 years. Nothing better, IMO, for the combo of looks, durability and ease of use.

i agree. started using 845 in NE Ohio 37 years ago. been using it here in FLL for the last 30+. harsh conditions here in the summer with heat/humidity and the 24/7 salt of the Atlantic Ocean. the GQ's get NXT because that's all they need but the DD gets 845.

I use Rejex under all wax's.

The nice thing about 845 is that when you run a WW across it you get tiny microbeads. When those microbeads no longer form you know it's time for another application.

1320Str8_liner- I don't use a sealant under 845. I do sometimes use 845 under other LSPs though. As for using it on black, some people think it looks great, others... not so much; strictly a personal preference.

I'm a huge fan of common sense, and an even bigger fan of not fixing that which isn't broken ;)

I will say that I'll often top 845 with 476S, and/but I often put another coat of 845 on top of *that* at some point (my "Collinite sandwich" approach).

I understand your dilemma and I think most of us go through this from time to time....but my advise is to just keep using 845.

What, are you nuts? Why would anyone leave the glorious snow/rust belt for Florida?!? :rofl :D

845 is awesome. I like it on top of 3m Performance Finish.

A little AW occasionally after every cpl of wash's.

Great in the summer, makes bug cleaning easier.

In the Winter, 2-3 coats and your good to go.

Looks wise, pretty nice, better than NXT.

Slickness pretty darn nice...

I must be the only non-fan of 845. I bought it last year via all the hype and used it as my go to winter wax and 1/2 my customers came back and said it didn't hold out as well as the #21 or #105 I was using on thier cars .

I used it on my Olds Alero ( winter beater ) in late Oct along with #105 on 1/2 the roof, hood and the #105 out lasted it.

In mid March I repolished the car and applied 845 and there is close to little beading at all right now and it had been washed about every 10 days.

I'll use it up on the Olds and freebies but back to the others for customers cars.

I completed the Spring detail last week and while I was tempted to use 845, I just had to throw down Menzerna Power Lock (MPL) which I topped with DoDo Super Natural.

My initial impressions:

MPL offered up a better wet look and slightly better depth compared to 845. Since the verdict on MPL durability is still out, I'll offer my feedback as the summer/early fall progresses.

NOTE: The depth and wetness I mentioned re: MPL was only slightly enhanced by the DSN.

Less than ideal lighting in this next shot, but I think you can get the idea.

More feedback on MPL to follow.

As for protection and look over a Midwest Winter, I will use 845, no questions asked. But for the summer months when I can play with various sealants/waxes, MPL is looking pretty so far ;).

I think I just answered my own OP post ?!?!?!

I have tried many different LSPs out there, and I haven't come across anything yet that has a good balance of shine, depth, and as long lasting as 845. Even when it comes to higher end boutique LSPs. You will get better depth with some nubas, but have to give up the long lasting effects

That's what I thought the first time I tried it. And on some surfaces/paints/applications it *still* doesn't last long for me :nixweiss Layering it usually helps, but sometimes it's just not the right product for me.

E.g., it just does *NOT* last on the plastic rear bumpercover of the A8. For some reason #16 simply lasts a lot longer on that panel; the 845 needs redone after an incredibly short period of time.

And note that I generally *do* like/use/recommend 845; it's lasting forever on my '93 beater-Audi. But it's not always the best choice for me.
