#83 DACP vs. menzerna IP

Which product applied with a PC and a yellow pad will take out swirls, fine scratches, water spots. etc the best? i have menzerna IP and FP, but i have been thinking about using #83 on my dark dark blue paint..
 
I think DACP may have the advantage, although it takes a long time to properly break down, it will work via PC. IP, although good, really doesnt show the magic unless used by rotary. I rarely use IP ( don't have the need for either one any way now)

It heats the paint to the paint where the product can actually move particles of paint, removing the damaged portion. This heat coupled with an agggressive product or pad or high speed or any one of those too much can cause burning. So a fair degree of skill is necessary to use the rotary as opposed to the PC. I practice it whenever I get the chance with some scrap fenders.
 
Since you alreay have the FP (I'm leading up to something here...), I would recommend you do the best you can with the DACP on the PC with a cutting pad or just a polishing pad if the marks you are trying to remove are not too severe. Start out at about 4 and moderate pressure then as the DACP begins to break down, lighten up on the pressure, and up the speed to between 5 & 6. WORK IT UNTIL IS IS DUST. If you started with a cutting pad, do the area again with a polishing pad. Finally, using a finishing pad, hit the area a third time with the FP at #6 on your PC. This last polishing step will do virtually no cutting (but do it anyway) as the FP is a paint burnisher, that is it will take the paint to its highest possible gloss before you apply your choice of finish.



Remember, preparation is EVERYTHING - the best products on a poorly prepped surface will still look shoddy, but if the surface is as defect free as possible and highly polished then even a moderate finish will look great.
 
Big fan of the #83/FP/Sealant (Ex-P) in my case. Looky the sig. I did #83 with a cutting pad and FP with a polishing pad and got great results from this combo.

#845. Had some streaking issues in some humid weather upon application but it all evened/cleared out after a day or two. Had tight beeds for roughly 4 months, until I reapplied for no apparent reason. Smells something short of turpintine :p

hello this is my second post here at autopia, i have a few questions that are somewhat on this topic, i plan of detailing a black 97 vw jetta.



i just tested out some dacp(w/meg burgandy cutting) and some #9. (w/polishing pad) on a section of the hood. i did a section 3 times witht he dacp, before the swirls were removed? as the swirls disappeared i noticed fine looking pubic like hair marks in the paint (only visable under 500watt halogen) i followed up with the #9 and it took me 4-5 shots with the stuff to remove this? any recommendations?



how large a section?

what amount of product?

what pc techniques do i use?

how long to work the dacp?

at what speeds do i start and finish?



i know these questions sound silly, but i'm new to this, and really want to learn as much as i can.



the finish looks very slick and smooth, and there are a few large scratches that i know are not going anywhere, but i must be doing something a lil' off, what are these lil' hair marks? and what should i follow them with?, because #9 took forever, it's more of a finishing polish. thanks

DACP with a cutting pad can leave haze that might be too much for #9 to remove on one pass, #9 is pretty light. I would have used DACP with a cutting pad than followed that with DACP and a polishing pad than #9. The DACP with the polishing pad will clear up a lot of the haze left by the cutting pad and then #9 will finish it off.
 
thanks steve, really i need to pick up more foam pads, i acually though about that, but did not want to mix stuff on the pad. i don't have a credit card, so i'll have to ask my bro to order and i'll give him the cash.

i was recommended menzerna ip with orage power pad, and fp with white polishing pad.



i am having difficulties with dacp and speed glaze. unable to remove hazing completly(i'm working the dacp till it's dust w/cutting pad, even tried a few diiferent setting and folling with a polishing pad, then moving to speed glaze with polishing pad.i might try some menzerna, and thought this topic would give me an idea in comparison. anyone who has used these these products please post. thanks
 
I've been hearing a lot that the Menzerna products work a lot better for rotary machines vs. DA's.



I can't imagine why you would still be having a hazing problem if you do #83 with both cutting then polishing pad. I've actually heard of a few people saying that #83 with a polishing pad is almost wax ready, but you are even taking it a step further and doing #80. Something's definitely up.
 
jdookie, your right, i was looking under a 500w halogen and with my eyes crosseyed 3 inches from the finish! lol, i pulled it out into the sun today, and no swirls, no fine scratches, just a few marks that i know are going to remain. they could be removed with a rotory, because there not all the way down to primer, but all in all it looks so much better. thanks

i have only used meguiers and 3m products before,all by hand too, but now i got klasse! lol and a pc:D
