'81 Lamborghini Countach, Range Rover, Carrera correction, Tesla/Tacoma Opti-Coat

1981 Lamborghini Countach, the owner recently acquired it from the previous owner in Sweden and had it shipped here. It has been repainted, looks like some things were taped off, probably because I'm not sure you can full disassemble the car to prevent at least some taping with a repaint. Pretty good job, minimal orange peel and other than the random light scuff or scratch here and there it was remarkably defect free. The goal was to get some better pop to the paint, clean up the interior and protect it and go over the engine (which was already pretty clean). The wheels are going to be refinished so nothing other than cleaning them was requested.

ONR wash, Opti-Raser (mild) to clay

Optimum Hyper Polish using an Optimum MF cutting pad and my Rupes 21 DA

Optimum Opti-Seal

Optimum Car Wax

Armor All for tires/wheel wells

ONR at QD strength to wipe down engine

Woolite/water at 20:1 to clean the leather

3D Carpet Shampoo at 16:1 to clean the carpets

ONR dampened MF towel to clean the dash (suede like material)

Meguiars Gold Class Leather Conditioner to condition the leather

The car isn't running right so the owner preferred to leave it in the garage, didn't even get to hear it run. :(

2009 Range Rover. This was kind of an emergency buy for the owner. The transmission in his 2007 BMW 7 series went out so he needed something quick, but that would be large and upscale enough for his high end realty clients. Got a good deal on this Range Rover but wasn't happy with the overall condition...

Now, this wasn't supposed to be a correction but at the very least, the hood would need two steps. For some reason, Rovers have relatively soft clears on their metallic black paint that tends to correction pretty easily without hazing. I went with Meguiars M100/Optimum Hyper Polish combo on the hood, OHP on the rest of the car.

This 2010 Porsche Carrera is a continuation of this detail: http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-...s-half-correction-porsche-cayenne-diesel.html where the owner had me correct the front end prior to have a custom clear bra applied to the entire front end. I guess he'd finally had enough of the front end looking great while the back half of the car was still swirled. Hard to get good shots when I started due to the sun filtering in through the trees, it was definitely worse than it looks:

Rupes 21 DA, Meguiars M100 and Optimum Hyper Polish to the rescue! The compounding step was much easier this time with the Rupes and M100 vs the Harbor Freight DA and Meguiars #105. I don't think it took me any longer to do the whole rest of the car as it did to just do the front end with a less powerful DA and #105.

2013 Tesla Model S. Owner contacted me about a month ago to discuss having Opti-Coat applied to his Tesla that was on order. True to his word, he called me back with a delivery date and we were able to work out a time to coat the car in reasonably short order. Overall the paint was decent enough but the hood was a mess. In fact, one defect was too deep to fully remove but I was able to remove enough of it you have to really look to see it.

Befores:

The reputation for the metallic blue clear being soft was well deserved, it did correct more quickly than I expected. These shots are after using Meguiars M100, Optimum MF cutting pad (chosen for its less aggressive nature than the Meguiars cutting MF pads on this softer clear) and my Rupes 21 DA. I thought I got some after the polishing step but I guess not. Plus it was about 102 with somewhat high humidity and zero wind so I was working quickly so I wouldn't run out of clean dry shirts to wear!

As you can see, a trace of that really bad spot remained, although the final polishing step did make it pretty hard to find.

2013 Toyota Tacoma. Owner contacted me a few weeks ago about getting his new Tacoma polished and waxed when it came in. A few days later, he e-mailed me and asked "do you apply Opti-Coat?". He had seen mention of it on a couple forums and was very interested in it and then e-mailed me back saying he wanted to go with Opti-Coat.

The paint was in really, really good shape. Didn't even need much in the way of spot claying. Paint was very smooth and swirl free. Very impressed how the truck was delivered to him, other than the dealer emblem which some fishing line made short work of. Once the paint was polished and coating, it had a very glossy, wet shine!

Thanks Tim! Honestly, I'd rather deal with 100+ than anything under about 60.

I agree about the Tesla, the one you had was fubar'ed.
