$80 for Exterior Detail

I have an appointment to have my xterra detailed on Friday. $80 dollars for an exterior detail seems too low to me. This includes:





Complete Exterior Detail $79.95



· Full service wash



· Hand wash wheels and tires



· Hand wash inner fenders



· High speed buff using electric buffer



· Hand wax finish



· Dress tires



I have some swirl marks and light scratches on the finish. Im unsure if this will take care of it.



Thoughts?
 
Thats definitely on the low side. If that exterior detail just included the hand waxing without the buffing, then that price would seem more realistic. With all the procedures you have listed, especially the buffing part, $200 or higher would make more sense.



Who will be performing the work? A local carwash with hack detailers? No quality professional detailer in their right mind would perform that work for that price. Just remember... you get what you pay for. Good luck.
 
Is this at the standard car wash? Need more info on what they're using the buffer for... liquid or paste wax... etc.



Personally I'd recommend you find someone on this forum to do it if that is the case.

yea right.. more like a heavy cut compound on a wool pad with a high speed rotary by some hack!

I also bet they use the cheapest stuff they can buy in 50 gallon drums that is full of fillers and will wash away in a good rain. Sounds to good to be true and you know what they say about stuff like that. Mike...
 
I am very leary of this price, that is why I asked here before going through with the detail. The place is a "detail center" they do a lot of cars, in a higher end area. I live in Burnsville, MN would really like to make my SUV look new. I have all the stuff to maintain the finish, I just don't want to chance using an orbital buffer myself.



Anyone know of any good detailers in the Burnsville area.

Spend the money on PC. The only real way to hurt your paint with one is to drop it on the car. 2 minutes going over how to use one with my kids and they were buffing that day-and they were 15 and 17 at the time.
 
Why not go and see what they use? Everybody slammed this due to price and it may be a crappy place, but without actually going and finding out what - they use, how they use it and see an example of their work - then you really don't know. Like someone said, maybe they're using an AIO with a PC. If they don't let you check out them on someone else's car, then - then I'd be nervous about using them

Yep. I would bet you a free detial that this is what you will be getting. You will be able to see holograms and after a good rain and a couple of washed, everything will be right back where it was. Maybe even worse.



$80 is way to low for a paint correction detail.
 
I think you'd probably be better off polishing/waxing it yourself by hand. It may be legit though I hardly doubt it. Give them a call and ask them what kind of buffers and polishes they use then post back here.

The quality of their work is probably right on par with the quality of their products. Like stated before its probably gonna be some crap thats hiding your flaws for a few days instead of removing them.
