77 Triumph Spitfire 1500 questions

Brenton

aka PEI Detail
A customer has come to me with a 77 Spitfire 1500 in pretty poor shape. It is a rust colour--actually not quite rust since there is actual rust on it. There are 7 or 8 small dents throughout, light oxidization, degraded chrome, and some worn paint and stone chips. It has probably not had a good detailing ever, and certainly not in the last 10 years.
The roof is better, a creamy white hard shell with only light oxidization, but some bubbling in the crevices.

The worst is the bonnet, which was scraped against a shop table once. There are two significant rust spots (size of the palm of your hand), a crinkle, and some scratches.

He wants to know what his options are. He is considering having the bonnet refinished, but would like to keep the original paint. I wanted to ask you folks some questions before I gave him specific prices and options.

1. What is the make up of Spitfire 1500 paint? Is it Acrylic Enamel?
2. What is the integrity of the paint? Is it thick/thin, heavy, gummy, etc.?
3. Has anyone had luck here in oxidization removal, cut polishing, etc.?
4. Are there any options for chrome renewal? It is spotted mostly, and there are a couple of heavily degraded spots.

Any help is great.

Edit: here is a pic of what it could look life

I started on the job today.
The paint feels like an old acrylic. It is quite dgraded. I got it late today, and he's decided to repaint the hood (bonnet for Brits), so I get to use it as a test panel. Unfortunately, no before pics turned out.
I washed, then clayed. I began with a medium-heavy grit compound and the Black Edge pad, and wasn't getting anywhere. I moved then to a little heavier compound and a wool pad, but had to stay away from the multitude of corners and contours.
I'll then move to a lighter cut tomorrow and see how it goes.
