61 VW interior: Help Please

My son is getting the 61 VW back together mechanically, (see my previous posts. It has 36k on it and has been sitting in a shed for the past 30+ years). He has asked for some help with the interior. It WAS white originally. Now, with 45 years of dirt and grime the vinyl is tan. We've tried purple stuff, Woolite, and various and sundry other cleaners. We're pressed for time because he is planning to drive the car back to Rhode Island from N.C. next week, so we need something that is readily available locally. We're almost to the SOS pads and/or a whitewall tire cleaner like Wesley's Bleach White unless we get a better suggestion. Help, please.

The Bleche white might be a good idea, as might regular (diluted) bleach. Whatever you use, you'll probably need to let it sit for a while--perhaps a foam or gel would be better. I would probably stay away from the SOS pads, though. They can really tear up that vinyl--and re-upholstering seats is not cheap. If you need more scrubbing power, try the blue (non-scratch) scotchbrite scrub sponge. It's usually pretty effective without going over the top.
