Any opinions on using 601 while polishing

Slightly extended working time and colour restoration/enhancement of Sonus SFX 2 and Dinitrol soft polish today on my fathers single stage red MG Midget racecar.

Also noticed that buffing in 601only, slightly cleaned the paint but also cleaned the pad well. Got all the faded red paint off the pad and restored to same finish as when machine washed.

Update :

Test car - Rover RV8

Surface - hard black exterior windscreen trim (vertical)

Condition - slightly faded

I applied 601 with a foam pad to the top half of the trim and used alot of pressure for 10 seconds then slowly backed it down.

Dabbed on a little more

Applied my selected product (top secret) with foam pad over the top with same application pressure

Did the bottom half with the top secret product and the comparison in color richness and reflection clarity was huge. 601 treated surface was blacker, slicker, wetter and I could see my face lin it like looking in a mirror whereas lower, it was not as black or as wet looking. face was harder to see.

601 definately improves colour, gloss and clarity of surfaces and reflected images are much clearer.

It also makes the surface slicker than what polishing achieves.

I followed that up by doing the wiper arms with 601 first and same polish.

601 definately has some polishing power and will polish brown- flat black unreflective unpainted mirror backings of any material or texture by hand and deliver a wet black reflective image. by machine it would be interesting

followed with your choice of plastic polish or paint polish (they can be used too), the finish will be transformed.

My next test will be : clay a front guard, split it into two sections (tape in the middle) and machine apply 601 on the left half with the pad needed to remove the defects. then hand apply a thin layer of it and apply the first polish product. remove that and again lay down another thin coat of 601 and use next softest polish. finish up with 106FF and ultra gloss over the top of yet another layer of 601. The right half will just be machine polished with the same polishes without any 601 polish bonding agent.

I am sure that this duragloss product will provide sharper clearer and wetter reflections and higher gloss.

If this is the case with alot of paints and exterior materials, it could change the way we machine polish cars.

I now call 601 - polish boosting agent.

I've always been curious about this stuff...what is it, exactly, and what does it do? The explanations are rather vague, "Like an epoxy, A&B, etc.", but how does it affect the medium you put over it? I suspect it is some sort of mild acid, but does it really clean or does it do something else? Anyone have any thoughts?

No idea. All I know is that it contains aliphatic hydrocarbons and whenever you apply it to a surface like a polish and then dab on a little more and start polishing with your favorite polishes and compounds, it increases gloss, wetness and most of all - clarity

Dr Bailey instructed me not to add to a polish as it may cause hydrogen gas to form and rupture the bottle it goes into.

I will get a gallon and then do some more testing.
