Thanks, Autopia members, for bringing a problem to our attention. Our 6 inch Hi-Gloss, Constant Pressure Pads have a 5 inch loop backing that is supposed to work with either a 5 or 6 inch Velcro Backing Plate. We tested these pads prior to production with a 6 inch backing plate and did not have any problems. We have over 30,000 of these pads in the marketplace and have had only handful of complaints of the blue foam backing wearing away if used with a 6 inch backing plate.
The factory did not want to extend the loop backing to the edge of the foam for fear of the backing tearing off prematurely and we did not want to make our customers buy a 5 inch backing plate for the 6 inch pads and a 6 inch backing plate for the 7-1/2 inch pads. We wanted one backing plate to work with both pads.
Several Autopia members have reported the soft, blue foam wearing off when used with a 6 inch backing plate. We have contacted the manufacturer and have come up with a solution. We are going to have a new die made for the back loop material about 5-7/8 inches in diameter. This will prevent the hooks in the backing plate from grinding away at any exposed foam.
Unfortunately it will take 30 to 45 days to put this change in production. In the meantime, if anyone has any Hi-gloss, Constant Pressure pads with the foam wearing away around the outer edge, please return them to Classic Motoring Accessories (www.properautocare.com) and we will send you new pads at no charge.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for this happening but it just didn't show up in our preproduction testing.
