'59 Chrysler Imperial

Its been quite a while since I have posted. I have been really busy and just haven't had the time to post. This one kinda had to be posted though. I have done some cool cars in the past but I have a feeling that this one will be the coolest car I will ever do. The guy found me on the internet, called me and we really hit it off. We talked about the logistics of fitting the car in my garage and figured out that it would just barely fit. At almost 19' long it was going to be close. Once he showed up and we pulled the car into the garage we found that I had 6" behind the car for the garage door to close. TIGHT!!

The car was his grandmothers cars and she left it to him back in '92. It had been repainted back in the mid 80's and then put into a garage. He decided that he was going to, along with his car club, display their cars at Autorama this year so he wanted it cleaned up.

Aside from the amount of paint on this car it cleaned up rather easily. There weren't a lot of swirls in the paint but it was all oxidized. I did notice a lot of orange peel in the paint and actually wet sanded a spot. The difference was really noticeable but the customer wasn't up for the extra money it would have taken to wetsand the whole car. So I just did a three step polish and topper. Procedure and pics to follow.

Procedure:

Wash with Dawn

Clay entire vehicle including glass and chrome

Re-wash car

Dry with leaf blower

Polishing

SIP with PFW

106ff with orange CCS

KAIO with white CCS

Topper

Danase Paint Sealant

Danase Wet Glaze

Danase Paint Sealant

This combo really makes the paint look like it's 2 feet deep. It has really worked well for me!

Interior

Was noting more than a wipe down with a Woolite/water mix and a vacuum

Here are the pics. I do them in a "before and after" sequence.

Thanks for looking!

mose- (Thinking of another recent thread...) Now here's a C&B that I just *had* to check out!

Nice work on a really interesting car. Thanks for sharing it.

^^^^^^

My thoughts exactly.

We took my buddies father in law's '62 Imperial for a cruise one night. That car was huuuuuge.

Nice car and nice work on all that paint.

I would have LOVED to cruise that car while I had it. I real wish that kids today realized that cars like this will always be more cool than the stuff they are driving around in......:)

Great work Mose! That's a BIG car with a lot of surface area to cover. I love classic cars too! Most new cars are just boring to me...I'm mean look at the front bumper!!! :xyxthumbs

Ditto the above. Good, concise writeup, quality pictures that do an excellent job showing before and after, and a cool car to boot.

I'm assuming from your comment on orange peel, that this was a newer bc/cc paint and not single stage? And how much time did it take to do the chrome?

The car is amazing...it represents "Americana" in every sense.

Great job, Mose. I bet the car never looked so good!

Grimm: Thanks for the comments!! Yeah..it was cc'd. The chrome took about two hours. Fingers were DONE by the time I was finished....:)

Thanks for the comment! I totally agree with the "Americana" comment. This car screams "Good Old Days".

The Imperial has some front grille with all those protrusions -- a lot of chrome to polish.
