5.25" Pad + 5" BP = problem?

Hey guys, my CCS pads don't extend much out and around my 5" backing plate. I had heard someone mention that the 5" backing plates were fine for the 5.25 pads, but now I'm a bit worried that I may scratch the car badly by rubbing it with the backing plate. Am I just over worrying or is this a legitimate concern?

If I buy a 6.5" pad, will that do OK with the 5" BP?

A 6.5" pad will work with a 5" backing plate.

IMO with pads that have velcro to the edges, the hard glue from the velcro could also do damage to the paint if it hits. I don't really think it is an issue for anyone that is careful.

I've used pad/plate combos where there was seemingly no margin for error- the plate came to almost the very edge of the pad. Never had a problem, but I was keeping the situation in mind and I can't say that somebody *else* might not have trouble.

No problem for me at all. Though this shows the 6.5" CCS pads and a 6" BP I also use the 5" BP with the 5.25" pads. SuperiorShine uses 6"BP's with 6" pads as well.

was just going to say the same thing. A 3.5" bp works ok, but I'd use the 5" for defect removal where pressure is needed. Just be careful. :)
