3rd layer of KSG on my silver car last night

Do you *really* want to put #26 on silver over the KSG? I'd rather just have some more KSG on there (that's what I do on the silver MPV). Back when I was topping, I did about four layers of KSG, so if you want to top it you're probably about there.

One of the things I like about the KAIO and SG is how easy it is to keep "touching up" (?) the finish over the months with more SG and/or the SONUS glanz stuff. I've thought about topping, but then I would lose that ability.

That's about where I stand as well. On silver, I'd stray from topping it. Silver is a lot easier than black to keep the marring down, so if you keep adding SG every month or so, you could put off polishing for quite some time.

All i can say is wow. seeing my car today in the sun after i put the 3rd layer of ksg on last night... the car looks great that 3rd layer really made it pop.. I am going to put at least another 2 layers of this stuff on before anything...

But i do see where the question is..Do i

1. Top the ksg with #26 and not be able to add more ksg later on

or

2. keep adding another layer of ksg every month

Would it be better to top ksg with #26 on a darker car like a black or green???

IIRC, #26 tends to darken the paint a bit, which I love on Black, but not MY cup of tea for silver. I topped KSG on my white DD a while back becuase I got into one of those moods where I was thinking "I wonder how it would look if I applied some [insert product here]." So if that's how you're feeling, I totally understand and I say top to your hearts content. I'd say let it go for a while then add another layer of KSG. I think if you search the forum, 3 layers seems to be where KSG has reached it's best in terms of appearance. If you put a 4th down and it doenst change the look, then top to it. Post some pics too.

Yeah, the darkening/richening that Way2SSlow mentioned is, *IMO* better suited to colors like that. It might mute the metallic effect of your silver.

FWIW, I too got diminishing returns looks-wise after that third or fourth coat, but with six layers of KSG I was able to merely wash it for many, many months (and I spot-clayed as needed with Sonus green too).

IMO you won't even need to add more after each month. Just wait until the beading starts to turn to sheeting or the finish loses that weird KSG "plastic" feel, and then add more.

When I did my durability test with six layers, I didn't add more, or even QD after washing, and I got over a *YEAR*. It was still beading, still felt slick, etc. YMMV but that was utterly amazing to me, I never expected that.

After I learned to put a mist of Sonus Acrylic Glanz on my mf buff towel, it's never been a pain to take it off at all. I think some folks just use a mist of water.

I swapped for some KSG but haven't tried it yet. Since I don't have any KAIO, can anyone suggest another suitable base? The only AIO I have is FK1 215. Or is it OK to apply it to bare paint and still get good results?

I don't believe products 'layer' as we'd like to believe, like sheets of paper on top of each other. I believe you're removing some of the existing ksg with each subsequent application and that your durability is only as good as it would be from the date of the last application, regardless of earlier applications. I know accumulator's home tests have shown him otherwise, but this winter I did my truck with 3x ksg on one side and 1x on the other, both wore out a the same time. My $.02 says save your time and money and get a modern sealant, dump the dinosaur KSG. :)

Noting that I do consider the start date as being the date of the last application (heh heh, I really do apply the appropriate testing controls and protocols ;) )...

Perhaps there's a point where the durability really takes off :nixweiss I never got much durability out of one or two layers. I never tried three...I jumped straight to four (wheels- lasts for months, usually until I put the winter wheels on) or six.

I also suspect that the shampoo plays a huge role in KSG durability. Griot's basically doesn't have any effect on it at all but it doesn't take much to strip it if you use something harsh (wheel cleaners pretty much take it right off).

Heh heh, I'm kinda just poking you with a stick Lightman, as I know you're not a KSG fan ;) We'll see if *I* buy any more if I ever use up that bottle of mine (which won't be any time soon given the way it lasts for me). I can't remember the last time I actually suggested that somebody oughta buy the stuff; seems like there are a scad of products that I'd rather point someone towards.

Now *that* we agree on :D

I got my bottle of KSG back in the late '90s. I layer it, I've experimented with goofy-thick applications, I've spilled it...in other words I *use* it...but that original bottle will still last me a few more years!
