3M rubbing compound

i just bought some of it this afternoon (fine cut) its my first ever compound and i dont have a buffer or anything (and no funds to buy one now) would i notice i different if i buff a black grand am (pretty swirled but "not too bad") by hand and apply a coat of polish than a wax?

3M compounds are great products used allot of them.....Work in small areas like 12x12 inch areas so that you can keep good control of the product.....I would followup with polish to bring bakc the luster then wax....your going to get decent results from this
