The rear wheel wells of my Honda CRV are begining to chip off. From the factory, they have some sort of protectant on it and that is peeling off exposing white (the color of the car) under neath.

Can i peel it off and respray it with this?

Anyone have opinions?

I don't have a great answer for this one :o even though it seems like I've been spraying a lot of undercoating this year.

I redo undercoating on some of my vehicles and on others I pay a body/paint shop to do it. I'd think twice about replacing the factory stuff with the rubberized stuff, it's not the same. For me, whether to DIY/not depends on what kind of undercoating it is and whether it's painted body-color or not. I usually try to stick with a close-to-factory approach.

I'd find out what the factory stuff is first and then see if you want to try redoing it with something similar yourself. The rubberized stuff is what's currently in all the stores so IMO people are using that without giving it a lot of thought. If you want to use it, I'd sure get the surfaces in question clean first, as in a good solvent.

the problem with rubberized coatings is if the surface is not completely clean and coating is bonded, it will LOOK like you have protection but what you have is a layer of coating that lets moisture in and creates more problems than "unprotected" surfaces. rubberized will actually be an unattached "skin".
