3M Perfect It II:RC--using an orbital, apply with wool or terry?

just as the title says,

I bought some 3m Perfect it II rubbing compound recently and want to try it out on my hood. I tried it by hand with pretty good results, but want to see if i can get at some of the more deep marring by using the orbital i have. I have a few terry and wool pads that came with the polisher (its one of those crappy 10inch Random orbital ones) and no foam pad. Would the wool or terry one be alright to apply the RC with? Or should i go out and buy a foam bonnet for it?

or maybe i should just suck it up and get a Meguiars G100... :doh

Thanks for the help guys!

You're going to do better by hand than with one of those. They're really for waxing only. For just removing deep isolated scratches, hand should be fine. For removing swirls over the whole car, you're gonna want to spring for the G100.

Yeah, IMO that machine will be less likely to properly break down the PI-II than working by hand will. The resultant hazing might be a serious problem.

NO WAY would I use the wool, and *I* wouldn't use the terry either. Either is likely to haze the surface and combined with unbroken-down PI-II you could have a real mess on your hands.

In any event you'd have to go over it by hand to remove hazing/etc. anyhow so I'd skip the idea. The possiblity of serious problems is just too scary...

Get the PC/G-100 and some good foam pads, I'm certain you won't begrudge the expense.
