3M Perfect-It 3000 Extra Cut Rubbing Compound VS M105...

Hi everyone,

I've been using the M105 for a while now and I have to say it's a love hate relationship... On some occasions the M105 is a miracle product on other times its a nightmare! Wanted to see if there was anyone that has switched to 3M Perfect-It 3000 Extra Cut Rubbing Compound and has anything to report whether good or bad. I'm currently mixing the M105 with OHC to combat the work time and dusting issues. Thanks for any input!

M105 worked with rotary and Meguiars Burgundy cutting pad

3M Perfect III Machine Polish with rotary and UK version Yellow pad

3M Perfect III Ultra Fina Polish with rotary and UK version Blue pad

RMG with PC and Black LC pad

Soverane Liquid was with PC and Blue LC pad

I have no problem w/105. It does have a learning curve, so practice is all I can advise really. I've only tried 3M rubbing compound in the small grey bottle, and well, there's a bunch of others out there that are far better. Too much dust, carcienegens and sloppy finish are some of the things I noticed. Btw, why did you post this when your other recent post is almost identical?

Noting that I've only used the PI-III Extra Cut (05936)...

The 05936 has a *lot* more cut than the M105 and is absolutely rotary-only. It doesn't leave nearly as nice a finish as the M105, and even with the newer PI-3000 system you're supposed to do two step-downs after using it (as opposed to M105 which can often/usually just require one). And the 3M *DUSTS*, pretty abrasive stuff too as it only breaks down so much.

But again, that's the older version. Still, I'd bet that they're not too dissimilar. Simply very different stuff compared to M105, in most every respect.

I have the 3000 series EC and it is just like you're describing. Dusts a good bit and doesn't leave a nice finish at all. You'd need at least a two-step afterward.

Try Presta no dust...no dry spots...just a great shine. But you need to rotary polish for optimal results. You also need to multi-step your process (Change pads) for any really GREAT results. Some Menzerna products do create dust ..that means polishing is done. The instruction on the bottle states polish until hazey or dust appears then wipe clean with a soft dry cloth.

I frankly dont carry or use any 3M products. They may be what work for many but not for me. All my 3m Sh--- went in the garbage in the 1970s. I dont mean to offend anyone....so if it works for you, its NOT broken so dont fix it. Rubbing compound is something I use as a LAST resort for removing deep imperfections or scratches. You can get yourself in deep yogurt if you dont know what your doing with rubbing compound. I usually make the customer sign a disclaimer if they want a deep scratch out...one that stops your fingernail. My success rate is about 90 percent on deep scratches.

So if you can feel it with your fingernail, you can get 90% of those RIDS out? You need to hold a class and make millions.
