I was given a bottle of 3M Imperial Glaze and I'm a newb to all this detailing stuff... was wondering... when would i use this... i stopped by Chemical Guys got a bottle of SMARTWAX.. would i put this on before or after... or don't bother with this step... thanks in advance

glaze goes on before wax...wax is LAST STEP! A glaze is used to hide swirls, scratches (has fillers) and makes paint look more wet and deep and glossy

although 'old school', the 3M imperial hand glaze is a great little product traditionally used after polishing and before an LSP (wax) and aids in leveling the surface by filling the micro scratches. As opposed to a polish, which will by chemical or abrading means will smooth out scratches and hence level the surface.

but i'm sure some will argue, and state they will periodically use a glaze over a coat of wax for a short term 'pop', like a weekend car show etc......

cheers.

Before but 3M Imperial glaze should be applied /w a rotary for best results, a PC will work if you work it in long enough, you want to make heat w/ the pad so it will work right, and then lightly use a lower setting /w light pressure to give it a nice shine. If you don't have a machine use hand glaze, Read the instructions on the bottle. You don’t want to use a sealer or wax “cleaner after you have glazed because it will remove the glaze or make it hazy. Think about claying first and polishing before you glaze for much better results. Glaze is exactly what it means glaze like you put glaze on a cake to make it look nice and shiny and this type of glaze will bring oils back into the paint, especially SS paint. There is a lot more things to know about applying glaze and the many type of glazes out there for different type of paint you are working on. If I was you I would say what kind of car you have year color and maybe a pic and what kind of defects you have on your car and others here will tell you the proper procedures to follow to detail your car right.

The car looks great. Ya, the pictures are not really that great because they are so bright.

As far as the guy telling you do not need clay, i would re-think that. Maybe it is not a priority but every car needs clay unless it is kept in the garage 24/7. Glide your fingers on the surface and see if you feel anything on it. If you feel something (smell debry stuck on the Clear coat) than you can use the clay to remove those. If you are gonna clay, just wax after the clay. The best clay i have found has been ClayMagic. I tried some Zaino Z-18 clay and i didnt like it much.

Thanks !!! ya my camera is about 5 years old and its only like 1.5 mega pixels LoL.. i need a new camera... i can feel very lil roughness so i do think i need to clay... once i get my PC i can finally get rid of the hairline scratchs... i think you guys call it spider webbing... the wax did help though
