3M IHG by hand and PC

This stuff hasn't been discussed as often as it used to due to the discovery of other great glazes/fillers like GEPC, Vanilla Moose, Meg. Swirl Free Polish.

I've had this 32oz. bottle of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for atleast a year and a half, but I've never tried it. I don't know why. Yesterday I tried it out on my Dad's 1972 Corvette, that was repainted very well about 7 years ago. It's kept in the garage other than weekly or biweekly joy rides. I've removed most of the swirls in it from his previously bad washing habits, but some stubborn ones still remain.

At first I tried the IHG with a white polishing pad and the PC at about 4. I used a little too much product so it was pretty tough to get off. Then I decreased the amount of glaze and it was still kinda tough. I decided to try it by hand with a MF towel folded into 8ths. I used much less product and the results were greats. Wipe on and wipe off. I moved it out into the sun and looked at it from many angles. I saw no streaking or oily residue and the swirls were definitely decreased. Probably the closest I've ever had to a perfect finish.

Next, topped with S100 to increase the length I'll have this shine. Amazing.

There might be other products that are easier, but as long as I continue to have great results I'll work on finishing up this bottle since I have PLENTY.

I probably forgot some kind of info., but I'm sure you guys will let me know.:xyxthumbs

I applied 3M IHG last summer for a show i was in, i applied / buffed by hand, maybe i let it haze to long, but it was hard to remove big time!! when you said "wipe on wipe off" are you not letting it haze? think ill apply a coat of IHG then top with S100

Brought some to try, no matter how thinly i applied it or how little time i left it , it was hard work and a pain in the arse to remove and the shine wasnt as good as megs hand polish. I will stick with that and no 7 over GEPC i think.

I didn't let it haze at all. I agree, it definitely isn't the easiest stuff to work with. I would like to try GEPC or Meg. Hand Polish, but I haven't yet, so I can't compare for ease of use or results.

They are both easy. Gepc is easier , but i find i need both to get the wet look, GEPC leaves the suface super slick, hand polish adds the wet look.

Agree with Bob - don't let it dry. I just tried a new product from 3M that is a great topper. Detail Wax, called 3m DWX. Can do my car faster than with P21 and outshines it hands down. Only drawback it only comes in gallons and does not last long. Great for car shows or other "special" events when you want your car to be a perfect 10.

Anybody else ever try it?

I just found my IHG last night and applied it on my car... by hand, using a foam applicator... Wasn't that difficult, about 10 rubs (back and forth) with medium pressure, wipe off, wasn't that difficult at all. I did the hood, fenders, trunk, rear quarter panel and 2 doors in 50mins or so, that includes 1 coat of 3M SCPW (found it under our hamper hehe)

As always, I'm very pleased with the "liquidity" of IHG...

Did the hood, not the roof... Big difference.

theveed, great shots!!:bow :bow

The hood definitely looks wetter and deeper than the roof. I'm simply amazed you can make "Corolla paint" that old look so damn good!!

I use IHG with a grey CMA pad on my PC, just at speed '1'. Work it for just 10-15 seconds and stop before it starts getting too dry. Wipe off by hand w. a MF towel, no big deal. Very easy, quick & painless. I just put a thin line of the IHG around the perimeter of the pad, I can see where it would be easy to use too much.
