3M hookit backing plate for Porter Cable, where to buy?

I made the mistake of not ordering from coastaltools and decided to buy a PC from Lowes for $101 after tax. Now I need to find a backing plate at a local store in northeast NJ. Does anyone know where I can find the 3M hookit backing plate? See pic. I've tried 3 Home depots and 1 Sears without any luck.

Thanks,

Rays

Hi RaysMD,

I bought the exact item pictured from an Auto Body supply store.

Don't think with your "consumer" mind on this one. Think with a Pro body man's mind instead!

Thanks, I did a search on 3M's site and found some distributors. Hopefully, they're open on Sundays. Anyway. The PC from Lowes from Lowes for $109 - 10% off was a deal that I couldn't pass up. Just wish I didn't drive around looking for the 3M backing plate.

I bought mine on Thursday for $109 at Lowe's!

When did they go on sale?!?!?!

Dagnabit!

I have a black AND a red BMW to maintain!!

isn't that the 3M system that is the reverse of a regular velcro system? I know they make one.. better check it out, or else you'll be limited to only the pads they make that work with it.

3M makes two types.

Hook-it - Standard type: The one you need

Hook-it II - Reverse Velcro (hook and loop). - Don't get this version.

You want the 05776 - it works with the "regular" pads.

An automotive paint store is the way to go. That's where I got mine.

Bump from the dead.

I bought mine from the Dupont automotive finishes distributor retail store in town. $22.

THe Hook-it II works great with the 6.5" LC pads. The LC cheapy backing plate that came with the PC was flimsy and broke at the plastic neck only after 2 details under light pressure. I think the vibration of the PC did it in. The 3M has a sturdy washer rivited on the backing plate.
