3m Finesse-it Ii Machine Polish

I am still trying to work out some of the swirls on my 2002 black Honda CRV. Over the weekend, I went with a polishing pad on MENZERNA FINAL POLISH and then followed it with Meguiar's #7; both items I used a setting 3-1/2 speed.

Today I am going with 3M FINESSE-IT II MACHINE POLISH on a polishing pad to hopefulling get out more of the swirls; what would be a good speed setting to use; 4 or 5?

I use polishes and swirl removers on speed 6 and it works fine. I don't like using slower speeds with the PC unless I am putting on a sealant or wax.

Interesting; so no problem using speed 6 for both MENZERNA FINAL POLISH and 3M Finesse-It II Machine Polish?

What speed would you recommend for Meguiars #7?

Nope, you should be good to go with speed 6. I find that with speed 6 you get the job done faster and, to me, seem better. Maybe cause you are generating a little more heat or breakign down product better. I am not too familiar with Meguiar's #7. I know it is called a show car glaze but I am not sure how aggresive it is, if at all.

I would think that it would cause more swirls at a higher speed?

I have never had a problem with swirls. If you are using the PC and products right and using good pads and pads right for your job you should not have to worry about swirls at all.

I use speed 5 mostly....sometimes 6. I wouldn't use speed 3 1/2 for removing defects, only applying LSP's like 2001civicex mentioned.

When im working with polishes i always set the speed on 5 or 6. If im applying a sealant i set it on 4.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Just finished half of the car and it seemed to make a big difference at a higher speed. Also, this time I put a little more pressure on it and went over it a bit slower.

Glad we could help!

I started out with FPII and it didn't remove as many surface imperfections as I had hoped. Then I tried IP on a yellow LC pad @ 5 & I felt it could do better so then I tried SSR2.5 on a clean yellow LC pad @ 5.

The SSR2.5 took out 95+% of the surface imperfections & I probably could have gone right to LSP but I decided to do FPII on a white LC polishing pad @ 3.5 and the result was so much better than I could have hoped for.

SSR2.5 + FPII got it done for me.
