3D Ultra Protect Tire Gloss Quick Review

I recently picked up some 3D Ultra Protect Tire Dressing and decided it to give it a try. I have switched to using only water based tire dressings on my tires for a while now and my "go to's" have been PERL (1:1) and Poorboys Bold and Bright. I decided to give 3D's Ultra Protect Tire Gloss a try since it was very reasonably priced.

Cost: 24 oz for *$8.99
128 oz for $25.99

Product Description:

3D Ultra Protectant Tire Gloss Dressing is a water-based tire dressing that helps keep tires looking like new. This high-gloss formula is designed to coat the tires without leaving them sticky or greasy. 3D Ultra Protectant gives tires a finished look, without adding hours to your detailing routine.

Thoughts:[/B]

1) 3D's Ultra Protect Tire Dressing has a very nice look. It's not to greasy or oily.
2) No sling
3) Durability: Seems to be on par with most water based dressings. I applied it to my Dodge Rams tires and have driven it in the rain. The tire has definitely dulled from the original application but still looks good.
4) Very reasonably priced

Pictures:

This is after one coat. The instructions state that more gloss can be added with additional coats. I found it to be the perfect look (not matte but not overly greasy) and a very nice product overall.

INTERESTING. I also only use water based tire dressing. (opti bond). Did you spray directly on the tire then even it out with a applicator or did you spray it on the applicator then apply? NO SLING was good to read!

I applied to an applicator and wiped around the tire. Seemed to use less product and didn't have to worry about overspray etc.

Great review! I agree with everything you said as this is my go-to product for tires. I love the look it gives. Not too shiny and not dull. Just the right amount. I haven't had any sling with the product and I've been using it over a year.

Reason this is my go to over PERL and other water based products is because of the cost. I live in Canada where our stuff costs way more than what everyone else across the border pays. But 3D offers the best price (bang for buck).

It does fade after a rain and that's to be expected with water based products. Water is a natural solvent. If you apply it on a water based product it will start to dissolve it. And I don't mind because I wash it weekly. As long as my tires don't turn brown which they never have with this product.

3D Products have some great prices. Thanks for the review Pat, I'll have to give it a shot the next time I dress my tires.

Nice review. From the pics, I would not really call it glossy at least with the initial application and not a glossy tire fan so looks good.

Great review Pat!! We use Ultra Protect at our shop. We dilute it 4 to 1 for engines & wheels wells and straight (applied by hand) for tires.

Good question? I buy HD Dress by the gallon and 3D Ultra Protectant by the 35 gallon drum. I suppose I could order it by the drum, but I'd be willing to bet it would considerably more. Plus, I don't think HD Dress can be diluted as much as 3D UP? That stuff is thick like whale sperm. :)
