30th Birthday Ideas

I have a very good friend who is about to turn 30. We want to get him something nice for his birthday, but he's one of those who usually buys everything he wants...leaving us stumped. He has a lot of interests - mountain biking, climbing, sports cars, pens, watches, cooking/grilling, weights/fitness, guns, etc. He usually has very nice taste in all of those things.

Does anyone have any ideas for a nice ($250-$500) gift that's hopefully somewhat unique/meaningful?

For a guy like that, he would probably appreciate receiving an experience more than an item. I am thinking a day at a racing school, or maybe some cooking (grilling) courses???

Haha...that was very close to my line of thinking. I'm doing some checking into both of those.

I can't find a website and my Google skills are lacking for a search, but I believe I saw a place in Texas that rented tanks for use in a war-game scenario playing paintball. I took my brother out paintballing for his 30th this year and we had a great time.

+1 on the racing school day. I took a Skip Barber course here in WI and is still one of the best opportunities I have ever had and would do it again in a heartbeat.

If he's into guns, look into some of the firearms training schools out there. My uncle went to one (can't remember off the top of my head) for a shoot weekend and he had a ball.

How about a gift certificate to a nice butcher shop for some nice cuts of meat...nothing like quality meats on a grill...

We do have a great meat market here that he loves. I may have to come back to that.

Thanks, guys.
