303 & scraping off?

Yesterday, I tried 303 for the first time, and had a problem. Hopefully, someone can clear it up for me. I used it on a small area of the bottom window trim (hard black plastic), applied with a foam pad & buffed off with MF. When I was done, it looked kinda funny, so I ran my finger nail across it and it scraped right off? Just turned to dust whereever I scraped. I tried to get it on as thin as possible and buffed it before it dried. On the interior, I had no problems.

I probably last treated the plastic with Z6, would it be reacting with it? Will a simple wash clean it well enough if that's the problem? Should I Dawn it to clean off any oils? Also, does heat affect it in anyway? I did it right after I got home from West Marine, and the area is close to the engine. I don't want to try anymore until I get some advice on what went wrong-it's very difficult to get off!

I disagree. Actually that's why I like 303...it works well on my shiny plastic center console insert...it's not greasy like other products. Never tried Plexus though...

As far as the original poster, I have no idea. You shoudn't really have to apply and buff...just put a little on a rag and wipe it around. It does seem to help a little to run a dry part of the cloth over it, but it's not a apply and buff product per se.

303 is not good for hard, and especially shiny plastics. Plexus is best for those. 303 works best on matte surfaces it can soak into.

Yeah, it's a very hard, dense plastic. Unlike anything I've ever seen on a car (those with MB's know what piece I'm talking about). Maybe it just doesn't soak in enough. Guess I'll try something else that doens't need to penetrate.

You might want to visit the 303 web-site and check the buffing recommendations they make, As I remember, they say one of the common problems with users of 303 is failure to buff the product after application.

As far as kompressornsc's problem, I haven't a clue.

You'll have to buff and buff and buff. I know because I've tried it on things like my rear plastic window. It leaves film smear on hard/clear surfaces. No, it's not Armor-all or even Vinylex, but just not very useful.

Plexus is just the opposite, it works great on hard plastic. But on softer stuff, it is useless.

Both products claim to be good for everything, but the reality is you need both. In a pinch, believe it or not Klasse AIO isn't too bad!
