Today I had my first experience with Souveran. I applied it over 1 coat of AIO, 5x KSG, and about 5x Blitz. Am I supost to notice a big difference than that of Blitz? Cuz it seems like my car looks pretty much the same in terms of shine....dont get me wrong it looks damn good, but theres not a huge difference in terms of shine.

Could it possibly be because I didnt strip the Blitz layers before applying Souveran?

I dont mean to trash Souveran in any way, the stuff was super easy to apply, and I was drooling all over myself cuz it smelled soo good, I just want to figure out how to get the most bang for my buck, and get that perfect shine everyone wants!

I'll get to open mine (Souv.) on Christmas. Been using PPG in the mean time. If you didn't notice a shine diff., how about the missing white around the trim.

I'm sure it would take an extremely discriminating eye to notice a difference between two highly regarded waxes like Blitz and Souveran. I love Souveran, but I like it mainly because it's so easy to use. I don't have quite the refined 'eye' (like some veterans here do) necessary to fully appreciate the final results of Souveran.

I had the chance recently to compare the shine of 3M paste wax and Souveran in two ways. First was on a panel that had been SMRed and already had the 3M wax on it. On this panel I applied Souveran on one half of the panel directly over the 3M wax. If I look closely, using that discriminating eye thang, the shine looks the same from a perpendicular angle but from a shallower angle (like when you are looking for unwiped wax) I could see that the light reflected in the Souveran side looked more moist and less dry/hazy. Kinda like using a polarizing lens.

Then I used the two waxes on top of a panel that I had just put PPCL on. Again the Souveran made the black look blacker and wetter. The 3M also polished to a fine luster that looked like more of a candy coated hard shell. Both nice but different. As well I had hoped considering the 3M is less than 1/4 the price of the Souveran.

Considering what you already had on the finish, (1xAIO, 5xSG, 5xBlitz) that in itself would be pretty hard to top period !!! Personally I think when you get pretty close to perfection (as you are), better results are very very subtle (the law of diminishing returns).

Also...I feel when you have a finish that is close to perfection, after a while you get visually use to it and it may not look as good (astounding) to your eyes as it once did even though it still looks as good (astounding) as it originally did. We (you) just got used to it.

I think all of us here suffer from this to a certain degree. We want the absolute, positively, hands down, best possible finish that is second to none and when we finally achieve it....WE WANT MORE!!!

It`s called a fanatic. Welcome to the club :)

I found Blitz to be extremely close to Souveran in shine. Blitz is definitely not as user friendly in application and be careful of the black trim! Souveran is more like buttering a turkey.....unfortunately it only lasts half as long as Blitz.

T-Bone: You've got a very good point. I think (sadly) that I've peaked in terms of how much shine im going to get out of my car. As I got into detailing I started trying new products such as KSG and Blitz and would discover that my car would get better and better looking, therefore naturally I expected the same to happen with Souveran this time.

I'm toying with the idea that prehaps the shine would get a bit clearer if I stripped the Blitz (and Souveran) and tried straigh Souveran, this way the only Carnuba on my car would be Ivory Carnuba of the Souveran, instead of the 5x of yellow carnuba that Blitz has.

I gotta admit that its kinda disheartening that a product such as Blitz can produce just about the same shine as a product that sells for several times more. Mabey this is a premature assumption, as I may be doing something wrong, but seeing as how I dont mind the extra work of Blitz, Souveran seems like a waste of $$$. Does all the rave lie in the ease of use of Souveran?

Sorry for the essay guys, as I'm sure many of you know, when your a perfectionist, you leave no stone unturned.

Hey Steve....Perhaps your correct about having just the Souveran topper without the underlying Blitz. But again...I don`t think it will be a *major* difference. A lil, yes...Major, no.

I use both Blitz and Pinnacle Paste Glaz (my vehicle is white). I alternate between the two. Currently I have PPG on (3 coats) I do notice a lil difference with the PPG but only in the sun. In the garage under the flourescents or on an overcast day, I can`t tell the difference between the two but in the sun the PPG does have a lil more sparkle to it. Its not a HUGE difference and not painfully obvious either...just a subtle lil more shine and sparkle but on the other hand, it (the extra sparkle) doesn`t last very long...maybe 2 weeks.

You have some of the best stuff on the market on your ride...it doesn`t get much better than that dood.

I`m sure your ride looks totally awesome...but like the rest of us...your getting anal...and always seeking just a lil more. Thats why you read in here about some guys putting 5, 10, 15 coats of Zaino or whatever...WE WANT MORE AND WE`LL STOP AT NOTHING..NOTHING I SAY.

GIVE US MORE SHINE, MORE DEPTH, MORE WARMTH..OR GIVE US DEATH :)

No need to worry....until that is...you find yourself polishing and waxing your wheel wells......twice a day !!!

Then you know your in deep doo doo and need professional help :):)

By the way Steve...I see your in N.J. I was also born and raised in N.J. A lil dumpy place called Bayonne. Left there in 1980, been in sunny Cal. ever since. Where you at in N.J. ?

The classic case of "point of diminishing returns." I've used Blitz and Souveran for quite a while now. I love both. However, I can easily state that I can definitely tell a difference between Blitz and Pinnacle Paste Glaze or Souveran. Blitz gives you a nice shine but slightly more depth. The Pinnacle Paste Glaze gives you pretty good depth and a great shine to it. The Souveran seems to give me the best of both worlds. I would argue that Souveran gives me a better shine and equal depth to Blitz.

Now if you layer 5 layers of Blitz or so, then you're definitely going to improve the shine over a single coat of it. For a better test, try using 1 coat of Blitz on 1/2 the hood of a just prepped car. Then on the other half try the Pinnacle Souveran. I would bet ANYTHING that you will notice some difference. I guarantee!

T-Bone: Im in Hunterdon County, in a town called Clinton (also dumpy :) ) But your right, im pretty sure ive maxed out in terms of shine, but i guess if there's a will there is a way!

Don: Ill have to try that sometime, but Im begining to think that minute difference that Souveran makes, possibly isnt worth the extra $55 or so dollars. But Ive got a whole jar of Souveran to go, and ill think about it between now and when I finish it!

but I can state with confidence that I do notice a difference between the finish left by Blitz and the finish left by Souveran...and I won't go back to Blitz.

The Souveran, without a doubt, produces more depth and richness. Not to mention the extreme ease of application and the complete lack of "white chalky stuff". Just can't see returning to Blitz, sorry.:(

Yo Steve...I heard of Clinton. Its kinda at the end of the Hwy 22 near Round Valley Res. My uncle use to take me fishing at Round Valley many years ago. Nice suburban/countryish area, unlike industrial urban Bayonne.

Anyway...I think you figured out where your at with your finish.

They probably is room for some improvement...but basically...

your there man !!! :)

I have been thinking maybe next time I do my yearly prep overhaul on my garage queen, I "might" try the Zaino system...but like you...just how good can I get and after that...then what ???? :)

Yes Flash, we were watching this. 3000 members, with lots of activity, great threads and so many new friends, WOW! We are quite pleased with the growth and the quality of people TID counts as members. We will continue to add new wrinkles to make TID even better in the future. We want this to be THE place people go to talk about detailing. We are fortunate to have so many qualified detailers sharing their experiences. We are also fortunate for the input and help of Michael, Todd and Angelo. TID certainly would not be the same place without them.
