I recently bought 2 new cars. 1. A 2001 white Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Love it ! 2. A silver 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT very impressed with this car for $14,000. If anyone gets a chance, check it out. Ok let me get to the point. I have the washing and drying down but I need to know what would be the correct way to protect a new car finish. What products should I use? And in what order to use them. I hand waxed the Grand Prix 3 weeks ago with Mothers Carnauba. Came out very nice, water still beading strong. Getting ready to wash & wax the Elantra for the first time Sunday. Need some help!

The question you ask is kinda hard to answer... I suggest you do some searching on here for the various products used and get a feel for some of the feedback from members. Maybe even search new cars.



I suggest you check out the carport page and read details details details section as there are many tips and things. Also there is a product review section there with tons of info.



Lastly you may want to get the e-book as it will answer many questions you may have after reading all the threads on here.

PS I used Zaino on my new truck and Klasse on the GFs blazer.
 
I agree, there is no one answer. The first thing you need to determine is what your needs are. Do you want a durable wax it and leave it shine or something maybe glossier or richer but that requires more care and attention? This is just one of the questions you have to ask yourself. We can guide you from there.



Also, be sure to get the right washing and drying tools to avoid swirls on your new finishes. You may even want to clay the new paint to add slickness to the feel of the surface. Don't forget the details like rubber and tires and glass!

Thanks, Guess My Name & Brad. Brad, Im actually looking for something that will last for a long time between washings. Have been reading all the forums plus got the online book. I have been using the Mothers 3 phase system on my Grand Prix and it seems to be a great product but after reading some of these forums it seems that Mothers Is amateur stuff. Just looking to get the best product for my cars. I will send some pic on Suday after Clean & Wax them.

For long lasting try the Polymers such as Blackfire, Klasse & Zaino in alphabetical order.



They last a long time at least 4-6 months with proper washing and most will agree they give a great shine albiet different.
 
You will find strong followers of each of the three that Guess mentioned above. They are the most popular, by far. The key is to do a proper prep. Clean the car well, removing all prior coatings. Dawn dishwashing detergent is a common answer for that. If you really want to get picky, claying will give the finish a super slick finish. Slicker than new. You would be amazed. The next step for most of us fanatics is a paint cleanser, if necessary, then finally the sealant of choice.



Klasse is the oldest technology of the three but lasts a long time and has a good shine. It has a hard finish and looks good. Zaino is touted as being optically perfect so it gives a truer, glossier look of your paint and has the slickest feel of any sealant. Blackfire is the newest and I have no experience with it yet but many here have had excellent results with it.



All of these will benefit with the occasional use of a quick detailer between washes.



Use foam applicators, soft 100 cotton towels and/or microfiber towels for your waxing and buffing. Choose a proper wash mitt so you don't cause your own swirls when washing.

Brad is absolutely correct. One of the most important car care items to get is towels. Make sure that you are using high quality ones. Select from the best microfiber towels out there such as the Magic Towel or YoSteve's towels. Others to consider are 100% cotton Charismas. These towels are very plush and soft as well. What's the use of using a quality sealant or wax only to mar it up or swirl it up a bit as you're drying the car or buffing off the product that you use to protect it. Laters
