Hey guys, I have an ultima sample kit on its way. I'm also out of my NXT shampoo. I'd like a super gentle cleanser (my car doesn't show marring so I can scrub or even use my nails with out consequence) and I'm considering Ultima.

However, I'd be paying around $26 for 22oz. NXT is $9 for 64oz! And thus my question, will 22oz of ultima shampoo outlast 2 bottles of 64 oz NXT?

I think the approach of both products are completely different. This is from the Ultima description:

This amazing car wash is so gentle it won’t remove even the most delicate waxes, and it instantly restores the high gloss shine of Ultima Paint Guard Plus. Our exclusive formula creates volumes of suds, yet it rinses away in seconds. Plus, our special paint conditioners resist water spotting and streaking.

To me, it seems like a very gentle soap, while NXT seems that has emulsifiers to it:

Meguiar’s® expertise in ESP technology has led to the development of a completely synthetic car wash concentrate that loosens and emulsifies even the toughest dirt and road grime with xtreme sudsing action. This pH balanced, non-detergent formula won’t strip off wax protection and is gentle on all painted finishes as well as rubber, vinyl, and plastic components. Meguiar’s NXT Generation® Car Wash is the first step to an amped up shine, and prepares your paint for an application of Meguiar’s NXT Generation Tech Waxâ„¢.

My opinion is that if you want a soap that will not remove wax, go with Ultima or Gold Class, if you want to stay on the meguiar's side. If you need something a little more potent, go with NXT.

Thank you for your response. Your Avatar rocks by the way :) What about my other concern, regarding price and oz. The meg's gives you nearly tripple the amount for half the price.

No problemo, Bro! And the av is me if I were to be in the Simpsons.

Now, we know that you will get the best bang for the buck with Meg's, plus you can find it locally in most situations. Ultima is a new line, which seems very promising and which promises that you can do lots with little amounts. I think this one is up to you since you know your budget. I personally would try NXT first, then you could try Ultima some time after. Again, that is just me.

Dollar for dollar I would rather put my money into LSP or polishes rather than have it in a shampoo. So to answer your question Im not going to put out that kind of money for car shampoo. Ive been using Megs Gold Class from Target and it does a very good job

I think you both have a point. I didn't realize NXT was stronger then GC though. I must admit however, NXT does foam up better then GC. I suppose I'll stick to GC then, as the gentler the better.

Is there possibly a car wash, even MORE gentle then GC that I should consider?

Can Optimum No Rinse be used like a traditional car wash shampoo? TIA

I'm going to be adding a cap full of this stuff to my car wash in general just for the slickness (though I've yet to figure out exactly what the benefit of slickness is). Are you suggesting I use it as its own independent car wash concentrate? Mind you I'm using two bucket method.

Danforz, you might want to give the Duragloss car wash concentrate a try. It's $5 for a 16 oz bottle, but if I had known how much I would liked it I would have just gotten the gallon size to begin with.

I was hesistant to purchase it for a long time because oz for oz, it's a little more than twice the cost of NXT. Plus, I figured car soap is car soap. It shouldn't be much different. But, I'm sold on their car wash now. For me it is definitely worth the price premium. Using it back to back against NXT, there is a pretty big difference in how the 2 soaps compare as far as lubricity and sudsing goes.

I agree on the duragloss shampoo. Best bang for buck. Great cleaning and rinsing. Top notch shampoo.

I have also used ultima shampoo and less than an ounce of concentrate will fill a 5 gallon bucket no problem. It is the most suds rich soap I have used. It does not sheet like others, but it is super gentle.

I got a chance to try out the Ultima sample kit shampoo today. I put ~ 1/2 oz. of shampoo into my four gallon bucket. The foam never quit during the entire wash and it really does stand up to brake dust encrusted wheels just like DavidB claims. After I had finished washing, I had to rinse my grout sponge for more than 10 minutes to try to get all the suds out of it.:D

I have considerably hard water (~ 200 ppm) and I could still probably get by with 1/4 oz. of shampoo or less to a four gallon bucket. So, you might want to try your sample shampoo and then decide for yourself about the cost/benefit ratio.

+1 for Duragloss.

Let us least forget Mothers Cali Gold!! Fed Meyer $5.99 for 64oz!!

Soft wash is super soft. If your car isnt getting all that dirty Sonus shampoo is great. I believe it works by capturing dirt with polymers in the water a bit like ONR, its not a rinseless wash though. It also leaves polymer protection.
