2019 Toyota Avalon, a ton of paint!

New client who wanted Modesta only after talking to other brands. Fortunately not touched by dealership and very few defects which were minor. Just marks from being wiped off. One step correction done with Griot’s perfecting cream on a Rupes yellow wool pad. They are kinda messy but work very well for this situation. But what surprises me is the 3 stage system had 11-12 mils of thickness! Don’t see that very often these days! Having said that, remember you still have only .5 mils to remove. Coated paint with Modesta BCO4, wheels with BCO6 using the airbrush. Windshield with Modesta EGC, and tires with Swissvax. I do really like this color! Don’t know the exact name? Thank you for looking!

Toyota is really bridging the gap with Lexus, with the likes of the Avalon and the Land Cruiser. There are a few colors on the current Toyota`s that appear to Lexus quality, this color included. With that being said, I cannot wait for the day when Lexus/Toyota figure out how to produce all of their beautiful colors and have them be as hard as a rock, like the German cars. The bare paint on my Midnight Pine Pearl GS experiences marring with even the nicest of towels, I really wish it was formulated to be rock hard.

The Avalon looks Good.

Great work and write up and pictures Mike!

WOW that`s a lot of paint for being a new car.

Thanks for shareing your work with us!

The official Toyota color name for that red hue is Ruby Flare Pearl. Does it have any metal flake in it or is it more "pearl" in luster?
I see white pearl in some high-end cars (Lincolns and Cadillacs) and it looks more dirty, but is have that pearl luster, which exudes a certain amount of "expensive beauty" in appearance.

I assume the three-stage paint you mean 1) primer, 2) base color, 3) clear-coat.

As usual, Mike, very nice workmanship and "signature" photos, although the "Maryland Merlin" tree reflection in the hood is pretty red.

Lots of mettalic, 3 stage, color, pearl and tinted clear. Or color pearl and clear.

Thank you for this "clarification" and information what 3-stage paint truly is, Mike.
And since you talked about a tinted clear coat, are you seeing more of this TCC (another new acronym for the list!) on higher-end vehicles that you detail??
