2017 Challenger 392 TA in pure black! IGL Kenzo/wheels off service!

I had been looking forward to this job for a couple months now. The owner of this 2017 black 392 Challenger TA wanted a full lineup of coatings and correction work to really make this already nice car even better. With only 5k miles on the clock it was in nice shape but not to my standards for a new black car.

Wash/Decon

2bm with Hyper wash, Nanoskin handy towel.

Wheels/Tires/wheel wells

Wheels removed and cleaned with IGL iron/ Mckees foaming wheel cleaner gel. Then sprayed with IGL wheel using my 4oz hvlp gun. The tires had some serious new rubber browning that I honestly struggled to remove but did my best. Then applied a couple layers Mckees gloss tire gel. The plastic wheel liners were cleaned with LATA/steam then coated with IGL Quartz.

Correction

After masking off the factory vinyl decals running most of the length of the car I decided to use my Rupes 12mm Duetto. Mainly because this paint was in pretty decent shape. To get the best results I still went with a good 2 step process. I could of probably got away with a single step but he had already been told that most likely a 2 step is going to be the best bet.

Duetto 12mm, IGL microfiber cutting pad, Griots Fast Correcting cream.
Duetto 12mm, Rupes white pad, Hyper Polish
Rupes Ibrid was also used along with my Adams swirl killer mini.

This car has factory Matte black paint on the hood, roof, trunk and spoiler. I always suggest coating matte surfaces as it helps richen and protect the surface really well!

[INSERT usual praise for Justins00SS` work here...]

Justins00SS- I checked this out to see the Wheels Off :D And I`m glad the QuickJacks are working so well for you.

Heh heh, you were charitable in describing its Before condition ;)

For Brown Tire issues, you ever try Griot`s Rubber Prep? IMO it`s a [freakin`] miracle product.

Thanks bud! Actually that`s one I haven`t tried. I was able to get most of it but you could still see a brownish tinge at certain times.

I *really* do encourage you to try the Rubber Prep, it`s another of those products I expected to be snake oil only to discover it really is All That. [INSERT usual "YMMV!" disclaimer, but I`d sure risk the $ to find out with this one]

Have you ever tried McKee’s tire cleaner? It’s one of those products that I keep around by the gallon. I’ve been happy with it and wonder how these two products would stack up.

No, never tried that one, good, huh? The only other one I`ve used is Griot`s Rubber Cleaner, which is awfully mild so maybe I could upgrade that next time I run out so thanks for mentioning it.

The Rubber PREP is more of a specialty product for major cleanups, not something you`d use regularly.

I’ve been pretty happy with it and that says something. I wandered around trying this and that ever since Bleche White turned in the towel some years ago. As you’re well aware, Michelin’s brown rather badly. The Mckee’s will take a spray, scrub, rinse, followed by a spray, scrub rinse to do the job but I can usually get these things pretty dang clean with this product. I’m open to trying other products too. I’ll give the Griot’s a shot next time I order.

Looks good. Tough color to keep nice for sure.

Do you like how loud that TA is on start up and idle ? !

Laugh as you might, I am more impressed with your blue tape job than I am with the your concourse-quality detail.
Not big fan of black-matte striping/decals on pure black, but you made it look good.
Does the 12mm-throw Duetto use 5" or 6" diameter pads?? And, is FCA (Fiat-Chrysler of America) black paint soft or hard or somewhere in between??
Maybe it is me, but FCA paint on its muscle cars does not seem to have that much orange peel on it as other American-made vehicles. Or did you remove/reduce it during the correction process??

Haha. Thanks bud! The Duetto uses 5in pads. Combined with the 12mm throw it`s a perfect tool for medium duty correction and finishes awesome on softer paints when needed.

I noticed the same thing about how flat this paint is. It`s one of the better factory paint jobs I`ve seen to be honest. I would say it was right in the middle which is perfect. It corrected fairly easy but wasn`t so soft it would towel marr.
