2012 Cadillac SRX puts Garry Dean to the test

C. Charles Hahn

CCH Auto Appearance, LLC
For the past couple months, I've been playing around with the new line of "Premium Custom Detailing" products, engineered under the direction of Garry Dean. Thus far the test vehicles I've had haven't been great for showing off the results. Well today, I got the chance to do a detail with several of these products exclusively on a new client's 2012 Cadillac SRX. No clay or polishing was performed this time around, as this was merely a mid-winter cleanup. In the spring I will be doing a more in-depth job for my customer.

These pictures aren't the best (grabbed them in a hurry before I had to deliver the vehicle back to my customer ~20 miles away, trying to beat rush hour traffic) but they should give you a general idea. Look for more in-depth reviews to come later.

Overall, I'm really happy with the performance of Garry's products -- especially the Infinite Use Detail Juice and Tuned Performance Tire and Trim Gel are real stand-outs.

Infinite Use Detail Juice:
I can honestly say I find myself preferring this to my usual go-to rinseless and waterless wash solutions, ONR/Opti-Clean. Not only does it seem to have better dirt/grit encapsulating ability for reduced risk of scratching/marring, it also takes even less effort to use; I find myself needing to use fewer passes with the wash media and the drying towel to get a perfect result. It also seems to leave behind a ton of slickness and gloss all by itself. On interiors, it also has great cleaning ability for a variety of surfaces including glass, plastic, vinyl, and leather. I was even able to remove a couple small spots on the fabric headliner with it.

Tuned Performance Tire and Trim Gel:
In the testing I've done on my own personal vehicles, I have found that this dressing is extremely durable, even when subjected to road salt. The look can be dialed in depending on how many coats are applied, anywhere from barely any sheen to "used car dealer" shine. I prefer the look of 1 or 2 coats. Perhaps the best part is that this dressing dries completely to the touch with no oily grunge, and this means there is also zero sling.

As I said, I will go into more depth about these and some of the other products in Garry's line as spring approaches and more projects find their way to me.

DISCLAIMER:
Lest anyone accuse me of "shilling" these products, it should be noted that I did pay for them myself.

Talk about versatile.....

Rinseless Wash, Waterless Wash, Water Softener, Detail Spray, Spray Wax, Clay Bar Lubricant, Interior Wipe, and Glass Cleaner

Might have too get some detail juice lol.

Man that really looks nice. The tire gel looks like something I would be interested in especially. From your experience, does it leave the tired greasy or does it dry up some? Most gels that I've used like to collect dirt, when really angers clients around here because of all the dust roads and parking lots. I'm usually limited to water based dressings that dry to a low gloss sheen because of that.

Looks good Charlie. The multi use Infinite Use Detail Juice sounds interesting.

Thanks! I agree, a product with this many uses is a really interesting concept, that's for sure.

I also found out that the concentrate when undiluted can even be used as a trim/tire dressing, though it's not very durable. In a pinch, it's still another viable option.

Thanks! Definitely doesn't leave the tire greasy, it completely dries to the touch after about 10-15 minutes. This customer has a gravel driveway and when I got there with it, no dirt or dust whatsoever stuck to the sidewall of the tire.

I'm with you though, I've always hated the way gel dressings attract gunk, yet at the same time I prefer them because they aren't prone to run all over the place during application. This stuff seems to be the best of both worlds. I've thought about seeing if it will work like Opti-Bond does for spray application; that would really be nice I think, especially for wheel wells and the like.

I really like the tire dressing, I've been using only 1 coat and I really like the look it gives. I really need to try the Infinite Use Detail Juice on the interior.

John - I can't say for certain but I do not think it is silicone based. From what I remember when I spoke with Garry it isn't. It's has been a while and my memory has been known to play tricks on me

Slick Caddy, I like the overall look. Sounds like the products perform well. Now if I can just find my cord control clip by Garry Dean. If you haven't used it Charlie, I honestly think you would like it. Quite nifty little gadget that keeps the cord off paint.

I believe that is correct. :bigups

:rockon I've been using the Cord Control Clip for some time now; even posted a review in the past:

I also have both the air hose clip (works GREAT while blowing stuff out of interiors or detailing engines with the air gun), and the new vacuum hose clip.

Thanks for the report. Gary has been very creative with the titles.

I would like to see more details on the Infinite Use Detail Juice. It sounds like a waterless wash product that he markets more broadly than others market theirs.

I had a review that I was working on a long time ago but can't find my clip to finish it. :( Garry, if you're reading this I'll place an order soon for a replacement.

Thanks guys!

Hmmm.... Sounds a lot like UWWP+.

Can't say I've used UWWP+ to compare this with, but I do know Garry has been working with an independent chemist to develop his products.

Even if IUDJ was the same stuff, it's cheaper to buy and works awesome ;)

looks great! I may have to look into the detail juice if it's truly a slicker quick detailer/wax than ONR.

No question it's slicker than ONR has been. Neither product is a "wax" but especially in the case of IUDJ it does leave polymers behind. It actually gets slicker and has more gloss after it sits for a while and cures.

Thanks guys!

I wonder if it's the same independent chemist that came up with Uww+? :lol2:
