Hey Guys,
I am the type of guy that keeps his cars clean and looking pretty good, but I don't have much experience with paint correction. Since I just bought a new Corvette a few months ago, I have decided that I would like to be able to make it look almost show car quality.
A few weeks ago after talking with Thomas, I ordered some HD UNO, HD Polish, HD Poxy, some 5.5" HD foam pads. Yesterday I finally had time to give it a shot. My fiance' has a 2011 GMC Terrain and it has been through many automatic car washes and a wash from the dealership every time its serviced, so needless to say, it wasn't in great shape.
I started off by spraying the car down with a mix of Optimum No Rinse and 3D Green APC. After letting it sit for a few minutes I rinsed it off. I could immediately tell that there was still lots of dirt and debris still on the paint since the water didnt really go anywhere. I followed this up with a 2 bucket wash with 3D Pink Car Soap and my trusty grout sponge from Lowes. Once this was done I clayed the entire car and removed any remaining debris (tar, bugs, etc.). After the car was clayed I decided to wash it off before polishing. I dont have a ton of pictures but here are a few of the hood after the last wash and before any polishing. This is a good representative of the entire vehicle.
Scratch on the right side of the picture on my phone.
I started off with HD Orange cutting pad and HD UNO with my PCxp for my test area, but that didn't do much so I went to the HD Yellow cutting pad with UNO and could see some difference. I wanted to use the HD Black Wool since GM clear is so hard, but they were out of stock when I ordered so I made due with the yellow. I followed this up with HD Blue polishing pad with HD Polish. I was able to remove most of the swirls, scratches and some RIDS, but not all. It does look pretty good though and better than probably 99% of the daily drivers on the road.
I followed this up with HD Poxy applied with my PCxp and HD Black finishing pad. I will review the products at the end after the pictures. Here are some pics after HD Poxy of the hood and side of the car. I am pretty happy with the results considering this is the first time for me to do a full vehicle.
Previously, I had done very little with my PCxp and mainly just to apply an all-in-one. I have used M105 and M205, but didn't like the 105 because I couldn't find the sweet spot without it drying and dusting too fast. I did like the 205 as it was easy on, easy off and no dusting. HD UNO was fantastic and once I figured out how much to use it was great and gave me plenty of working time and was easy to remove. The HD Polish was even better than the M205 as it was very easy on, very easy off, great working time, and finished down great. This was my first time using HD Poxy and it absolutely blew me away. Once the pad was primed it was so easy to spread in thin even coats over the entire car. It gave it a dark wet look with great depth, but also made the metallic really pop. I am very impressed with 3D and HD products and can't wait to try more of them. I plan on putting another coat of HD Poxy on her Terrain this week.
