2010 VW Passat in Mocha Anthracite Metallic

My name is Mike
After a slight order mishap, I PMed the Stig and he, naturally, corrected it ASAP. The usual fantastic Customer Support from PBMG. But, he also sent along some products for me to review. Several were used on this car and will be written up separately. Also used some of my other new toys.

FWIW - if you are not listening to the Optimum Synergy Podcast, I strongly encourage you to do so. I love off label uses of products and they, especially in Episode 2 - Attack of ONR, rattled off many Id never thought to try. (And an interesting head scratcher: if the company reps are telling you about various off label uses of products, are they still considered off label? Hmm.... ;) ) Many were used here, too - very effectively I might add.

A coworker volunteered his wifes 2010 VW Passat with 120K+ miles to be the guinea pig. Apparently, some time in the past, I had done something to this car. It did seem vaguely familiar but do not specifically recall exactly what Id done or when. ("Done too many cars" or "just getting old." You decide. ;) )

Dropped off Fri, I started with the jambs with OPC plus ONR in my new Tornador Black. Then the interior with same. Color me impressed.

First thing Sat, I did my normal decon process (http://www.autopia.org/forums/washing-drying-and-claying/183981-mike-washes-car.html?highlight=) and got busy. Lots of stone chips and dings that I couldnt do much about. Otherwise, mainly light swirls but, on hard VW paint, even those can be a challenge. (Saving the next part for the product review.) I did try the podcast technique of using ONR in my Grit Guard Pad washer and cleaned pads every 2 panels. This was unbelievably effective. Was able to do the entire car with 1x 6" pad, 1x 5" pad and 1x 4" pad and was finished with 2 full steps in about 4 hours of polishing, working alone - with clean pads, mind you. Take that, you users of loads of pads per car. ;) The next step in residue control.

Corrected, I decided to try more Optimum Synergy and ONRed it using OptiSeal as a drying aid. Why hadnt I tried that before?!?! Topped it with Opti Car Wax.

Only the @#$% video this time. Yes, the shaking annoys me, too. Ordered a gimbal this morning to see if that helps.

Thanks for viewing. Questions welcome.

One other note - I do know how and when to use an apostrophe. Seems they are being stripped out. If it confuses you, it is not my fault. Does kinda look kool in a young person kind of way. ;)

Opti-Seal (and WG Liquid Seal) works great as a drying aid. Compatible with the other Rinseless washes Ive used too. Even works as a final wipe on glass because it clean light residue and dries clear. Very versatile product not just a sealant.

Beautiful job on very light defect paintwork, Mike !
Beautiful gloss and clarity you achieved in 4 hours - amazing !
And with only 3 pads !!!
That has to be a record, right ?

Thanks Dan.

It is for me - especially for a 2-stepper.

OptiSeal was never my favorite WOWA but, as a drying aid with ONR, I really like it. Will probably try other WOWAs in a similar manner.

Beautiful job! He really needs to get some Dr. Colorchip and touch it up a little. It would make a huge improvement.

Thanks. True.

Thanks Ron.

Not sure why I didnt take any. Was rushing a bit a the end.

Looks great. Curious to hear what combo you used as I own the same vehicle (year and color). IME, it has been one of the hardest clears I have dealt with. Dont know if you own a paint meter, but Im also curious to hear if you were able to take readings. My vehicle was all over the place paint thickness wise.
