2010 GLK 350 in Black....Take a look please

2010 Merc GLK 350. There was some type of "EZ WASH" pass on the windshield so I knew that wasnt a good start. The previous owner may or may not have ever had the paint protected in any way. There was one line of pigtails on the passenger front door about 6" long which was interesting.

Please take a look at what I have planned and give me some advice if you have experience with this type of clear, or any of the products Im looking at. Thank you!

Ouch that's in rough shape. With black paint I always assume I'm going to need two steps for polishing with two different products, a compound and polish. I'm not sure the level of correction you're going after but I'd go with a separate compound and polish instead of just using Adapt with different pads. Which polisher do you have?
 
Agreed, if you're doing 2 machine steps, might as well start with a compound since you're already going to invest the amount of time.
 
I would look at HD cut or something like Menzerna FG400. Not sure if your Mercedes Benz has cermiclear or not but they are known for hard clear coat.
 
I detail A LOT of black MB's. I would try this combo on that hammered MB paint:

MENZERNA FG400 w/CarPro Flash Pad
Optimum Hyper Polish w/Buff N Shine white pad

Going after 90% because I will be applying CQUK. I have a GG6 with 6", 5" and 3" backing plates.

I have a flashpad, and have been reluctant to use it after testing with it on my vehicle. Maybe Im not priming it right, or maybe im getting the results I should be and its just scary. Seems to create a ton of haze.

Just FYI I have used Megs 205, Megs 151, CG V32, 34, 38. I like the workability of CG products but I know for a similar price per ounce I can get better compounds/polishes.

On some of the deeper scratches I used a Scholl Concepts Wool Pad then the UHS system.

I started on a 2002 Mercedes C230 last night and the paint felt like sandpaper with my Nanoskin Wash Mitt. I'll start polishing tonight. I'll keep you updated with how it goes.

What is the recommended priming procedure for the flash pad? Should it be used differently than other foam pads? IE Speed, pressure, working time etc.
 
I found out thr burgundy Mercedes im working on now bas been repainted. So I don't think the paint will be as hard as the one you're working on but I'll still document everything.
 
Thanks for your input guys. I prepped this vehicle this afternoon and will start polishing tomorrow morning.

My plan of attack:

Step 1. M105, LC Cyan hydrotech in 3 and 5", Megs MF cutting discs in 3 and 5", and a 5" Flash pad for emergencies.
Step 2. Reflect, Carpro Gloss pads in 3 and 5"

I will have photos and a GoPro 1080p walk-around after Im finished.

you have your work cut out with them that's for sure,great results so far,looking forward to the next instalment
 
Dust mask FTW! I was just talking to a friend and he was telling me how he gets a long of "eye gunk" and "nose gunk" the day after detailing. I told him to wear a simple disposable respirator and he'll notice a big difference. Wearing a respirator and nitrile gloves has been one of the biggest detailing related improvements I've made this year.

The car is looking great so far! Can't wait to see the full post. :)

Trick to easily remove that mess left over by the badge . heat up slightly with a heat gun and apply a cloth saturated in adhesive remover, then use a plastic razer blade to gently scrape the bulk away. After the big stuff is removed its a breeze to clean up the rest of the glue left behind!
Dust mask FTWx2!! Like to make it a habit to wear ear protection as much as possible when correcting.
