2010 BMW 128i with M package Detail - Garry Dean - Tampa, FL - Premium Custom Detailing

Garry Dean

Garry Dean Quality!
This BMW was smaller detail than most because of its size. After I washed and decontaminated the paint I did my usual paint inspection and I found a major issue. The plan going into this one was to remove all of the swirl marks and detail the interior, but that all changed after my inspection.

If you dont watch this video, please do yourself a favor and inspect any and all paint before the buffer even comes out of its bag. If not you can get yourself into a bind, fast.

I just want to say I appreciate those of you that take the time to watch my videos.

Thanks again!

Great video Garry! This just shows how important it is to document your findings, in case the owner tries to say it's something you did. Keep up the great work!

Nice catch Gary. I've seen customers blame the shop i work at for issues because they didnt do a proper check in of the vehicle and catch a defect, and then we were stuck taking care of it.

This will definetly make me be more thorough for my side business, and just because the car seems nice doesnt mean that its problem free.

Thanks for the tips Garry.

Did the 4* leave the finish of the leather with the normal/factory look, or change the sheen at all? Was that just a mf pad that you used to apply it with? Also, I take it that 4* lpg is different than 4* lcg?

Nice catch Garry. Did you discuss the issue with th customer and then decide on 151 or did you already have that in mind?

My next question is: What if the car is dropped off? Do you photograph or video the inspection for documentation?

The LPG leaves the finish looking natural with a hydrated, but not greasy or snotty. So, a very slight sheen.

LCG is the Leather Cleaning Gel. So LCG = cleaner and LPG = protectant

Yes, I do a walk around with every client, but generally the vehicles are really dirty at that time so I cannot see every defect until it is clean and clayed. After seeing this issue D151 was the most aggressive I decided I would go on this vehicle.

I take pictures and or video of every vehicle I work on. Before, during, and after to ensure I do not miss anything and cannot be wrongly accused as well. I communicate very well as you all may have noticed. I make sure to ask the client if they know of any scratches or issues that bother them. At that point it is up to me to let them know if I find anything. As soon as I do I either call the client to discuss or if they are close I go get them.

Nice Job!!! In a case like the clearcoat burn would it be possible to lightly polish that area and ad a layer of protection with something like Opti Coat? Would that visually reduce the damage? or the appearance of damage?

One observation, I got a little motion sickness when you started shaking the leather conditioner. Hold that product still in the photo ops.:lol2:

Thanks.

There is nothing that I know of that will make these burn spots look any better. If you coat the area with a coating it will protect it from further burning, but the spot will still be equally as visible.

Maybe you should take a Dramamine before you start one of my vids. j/k :lol2:

Another great video Gary!

"You can see some shi.... err stuff on the paint!" < I laughed!

I have to say I found it interesting you chose not to polish the rest of the car based on the the edge of the paint that looked burnt. I see a lot of cars that have burned edges or thin spots but have never used that as a deterrent to polishing the rest of vehicle. Was this because you were fearful of the entire car because of the burnt edge or you didn't want the customer blaming you for the damage already done? (Curious to your mind set).

Great work once again, the interior looks spot on as well!

There were a couple of reasons I decided not to polish the entire car. The first reason was that I did have my concerns that other areas of the vehicle were very thin and the risk was very high. I am a risk taker, but something told me not to take a chance. Better safe than sorry.

The second reason was that this was a referral from another client of mine and the risk didnt really match the profit if you get what Im saying.

Thanks, Todd.

Fantastic job Garry. thats the longest detaling video i have seen..thanks

They get longer, lol. I do what I can to keep them as short as possible, but I have an issue cutting out info that I feel is quality. I just hope my videos keep you informed and entertained.

Thanks!

Great job Gary! Even better great tip. Something everyone needs to keep in mind. Even vehicles that the owner is has no knowledge of polishing could be thin or worse.
A scratch could have been polished out at pre-delivery or an accident during service work. I have come across the for mentioned. A careful inspection can save your butt, glad you mentioned this.

Good catch. The few minutes of paint inspection is much cheaper than a paint job!

And props to J. for getting off his butt and adding the store to your site!

Also, watched a couple of other video's and it's "discard". :D
