The owner of this 2009 BMW 335 Coupe was looking to get a basic full detail, he purchased it about 6 months ago and wanted it cleaned up properly. I was glad to see it was sapphire black and not jet black. But then I noticed some light buffer holograms and then that the metallic match between the hood and the left front fender and door was different. Obvious by the orange peel in some sections of the front bumper (and the complete lack of paint chips) that it has also been repainted. The fender and door also had really bad towel marring.
Some before and afters:
The repainted fender and door had some really soft paint, even wiping off the excess after polishing was tough to do without marring it again. But at the same time, I could hit it reasonably hard without it hazing which was good since he had budgeted for one polishing step. Rest of the car had typical BMW not jet black paint hardness. It really needs a full correction, but it seems this is the first time the owner has had a car detailed and really wasn't sure what to expect or to pay for. We went over proper paint care so in 6 months or so when he gets it done again, he'll find he can keep the finish at a high level and want to get it fully corrected.
ONR wash, Opti-Clay to remove light clear coat paint overspray
Meguiars #105 mixed 50/50 with Optimum Hyper Polish using an Optimum MF cutting pad and my Meguiars G110v2 DA polisher <---removed all the light holograms and really knocked down the spider swirls
Optimum G-P-S using an Optimum MF polishing pad and my G110v2 <---felt this was a better step due to the softness of the refinished panels, wiped off easily without marring
Optimum Metal Polish on the tips
ONR wash and wax cut 32:1 to clean glass
Armor All on tires/fenderwells
