Hey Guys,

Fist time posting something like this so go easy :)

I had some extra time this afternoon when I got home from work, so I thought I would give the ol' girl some much needed TLC. The winter hit us real bad in NY this year, and I never had a chance to really winterize the car before it got nasty out. The paint was riddled with lots of swirls, no major scratches that I saw though, which is good. Plenty of paint chips that need to be fixed all along the front end and quarter panels, but one project at a time here. I started with a dawn soap wash to really make sure nothing was left on the paint, followed by clay bar with some ONR as lube. Paint correction was just a quick one step with Meguiars microfiber correction system. I find it does a really nice job at taking out medium to light swirls, while not taking an immense amount of time. I was only able to do the hood due to a seriously limited time frame, however I think it came out great considering. I followed the correction with their finishing wax, and topped it with Mothers Top Coat. This weekend I will do the rest of the vehicle and use some 845 to seal her up for a while.

Apologies on the quality of the pictures, I had to take them with my tablet. I also suck at taking pictures so they really are not the best. Again more will follow this weekend when I get a chance to do the rest of the vehicle Inside and Out.

Also any recommendations for a good finishing polish? I find the microfiber system leaves behind some slight marring, nothing terrible but something that can be polished out. Kinda up in the air on what to use with the microfiber pads. Anyway thanks for looking and keep an eye out for more to come this weekend! Might even spoil you guys with an exhaust video :)

All they call it is DA Microfiber Correction Kit http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-da-microfiber-system.html

Comes with a compound specific to microfiber pads, as well as a finishing wax which is applied on top of the compound, then wiped off. I compounded, checked a small test spot, compounded again, waxed, wiped off, and applied the Mothers Top Coat. I used 3 products only. What I need is a polish for after the compounding stage that will work well with the microfiber pads. The compound leaves behind light marring which is mostly hidden by the wax, but as soon as that wears off its noticeable again. While the swirls are gone, it lacks that "pop" in the paint that so many achieve here on autopia. My experience with paint correction is limited to this system, as it is what I used when employed at Delta Sonic (local detail shop). I was able to get in some wet sanding experience as well, but being a volume shop we didn't have many products at our disposal.

Looking at the before photos I doubt you needed to use the Meguiar's MF Cutting pads and compound at all...  I did a red G8 late last year that was in worse shape and through my testing process I realized the paint was very easy to correct with just a polish and orange LC pad.

You might also consider reading my article "How to Analyze Your Test Spot" to help you determine the best choices for correction in the future.

Hope that helps!

Hey Zach,

Fantastic work on that G8 my friend, looked amazing when complete! Can you elaborate on the optimum hyper polish? I have always been happy with the few products of theirs I have tried. It seems like its pretty flexible in terms of what it can achieve with different pads. Enough cut on a more aggressive pad to get through some pretty nasty imperfections, how does it do with a polishing, or finishing pad?

I really am a weekend warrior type here, so lots of learning to do. I do just the basics for people like a wash, wax, full interior ect, but am working hard to bring even basic paint correction to my list of services. I currently have a full time job, but if I can improve my skills enough to make some extra on the side and enjoy the reactions of pleased customers that would make me a happier man than I am now.

As always thank you for the responses.

P.S. It pains me to see people trash a car like that, with 30k on the clock as well? mine has just about 55k on it, and I cringe when I see some light swirls, let alone that stuff!
