Hello all. Today we've got a gorgeous blue BMW 335i coupe to work on. It was scheduled for a two step correction. I really enjoyed working on this car since it's one of my favorite colors on any automobile out there. Here is the process used:

Wheels and Tires
Wheels cleaned with Sonax FE
Tires and wheel wells cleaned with Optimum Power Clean 3:1
Tires Dressed with DP Tire Gel 1:1
Wheel wells dressed with Adams Undercarriage Spray
Wheels Sealed with Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant

Wash and Decon
Foamed with DG 901 mixed with OPC to strip LSP and remove any loose debris
Washed via 2BM with Ultima Shampoo and Griots MF sponge
Clay with Ricardo Yellow Clay with Dodo Juice BTBS as lube
Iron X used on paint to remove embedded iron particles
Windows cleaned with Meguiars Glass Cleaner
Trim dressed with Muc-Off tire and Bumper Dressing

Correction
Compounded with Poorboys Compound on Cyan HT Pad on Dewalt Rotary
Polished with M205 on Tangerine HT Pad on PCXP

LSP
DG Nano Polish

So onto the pics!

First up I took care of the engine bay. It wasn't terribly filthy, so a light cleaning with OPC, then a rinse, followed by Autoglym Rubber Care did the trick.

There was a bit of old wax residue on several places on this vehicle.

It was all cleaned up with various brushes and OPC

The car was foamed and various areas were agitated to removed embedded dirt that wouldn't be cleaned with normal washing.

The exhaust tips were also cleaned, and then polished with collinite Metal Wax

One thing that I noticed was that the fender marker lamps weren't looking all that great. Here is a 50/50 after removing the haze with the same products used on the paint.

And here they are all cleaned up and reinstalled on the car.

Now we get to the paint. It wasn't in terrible shape, but it did have some swirls, as well as a few deeper defects. Here is one area that had some of the deeper defects that were removed.

and removed

Here is a look at the swirls. It was overcast out the first day of this detail so an LED light was used to get a good look at the defects. The majority of the car was covered in similar swirls.

And here is a 50/50 shot after only being compounded.

The sun peaked it's head out a little on the second day so I was able to grab some full sun shots. About 90% of the defects were removed on the car except for the hood which has some severe water etching which about 80% was totally removed.

And finally here are some after shots right before being returned to the customer.

And finally one shot that I played with in GIMP to try and get an HDR look...just having fun here.

Thanks Andrew! It is one of my favorite colors!
Dave the car came out awesome got to love that deep blue color
Thank you very much Adam!!
Nice work Davey! I love the color as well :yay
Thanks DOG!
Chhheeeeeooowwwwww! Nice job, Dave!!!!!

How many hours did this take?
LOL, thanks Mark! I think I had about 16 hours in it including the interior, which just got a quick vacuum and UIGP application.
Very nice color and work.

How much OPC did you mix in the 901 to strip the paint?
Thanks Al! I mixed 3 oz of straight OPC to strip the LSP. That said though, there wasn't very strong beading to begin with, so you may need more or less depending on when the LSP was previously applied.
Nice work Dave! Looks great!!
Thanks Doc!
Awesome work Dave... !!!!!
Thank you Pat!

Looks great!

How did you get the exhaust tips that clean? Mine look just like your "before" pic, and I've tried everything on my shelves and can't hardly put a dent in the carbon black around the inside of the ring on the tip (although the outside of the pipes look great).

Also, how did you work the Autoglym on all the surfaces in the engine bay? Mine is currently between your "before" and "after" pics, but I want to get it to look as good as that after pic does ...

thanks,
Andrew

Nice work Dave!!

How do you like PB Master Cut? I used some this past weekend and am impressed so far. Review to come...

Thanks Andrew! As for the exhaust tips I use 0000 Steel wool with a good metal polish to get all the carbon build up off, then i follow it up with a polish from an orange pad and the same metal polish to remove any scuffing that has been left behind. The polish I use also acts as a sealant, if yours doesn't you would want to seal it with some sort of metal sealant to protect it.

for the AG stuff on the engine bay I spray it on a after I have lightly dried the engine with compressed air, close the hood, and let it run for a while. then there are just a few drips that need to be cleaned up and it will look perfect. Hope that helps!

Nice work! I agree with you and others that blue is a great color.
Thanks John!

Helps much, thanks!

I'm quite interested since that is exactly my car, except mine goes from hardtop to convertible in 22 seconds. I have the paint/tires/interior looking good (with the exception of those exhaust tips), and the engine is clean just not yet shiny.

Will post pics when I get those done. Just got it about a month ago, and slowly bringing it up to detail level in the evenings.

And I agree, the Monaco Blue is awesome....as is the growl the twin turbos put out :dance1
