Owner contacted me a few weeks ago, and set up an appointment for a polish and wax for his 2007 BMW 335. Originally we discussed a full detail in and out but when we got there, it appeared that a good vacuum and interior wipe down would do wonders so the focus changed to the paint. He had a detailer he was happy with a while back but he sold his business and retired. The people who took over apparently don't have the same standards, first time they detailed it the car looked worse, second time they came back to correct what they had done and left random hazing all over the car. My guess is they compounded with a diminishing abrasive compound and didn't work it long enough and then didn't follow with a lighter polish to take out the hazing.
Due to some deep bug etching on the front bumper and pitting in the hood which will require repainting to correct, we decided that two steps would make a significant improvement to the finish and maybe a more comprehensive correction whenever the issues with the bumper and hood are fixed. Plus we want to see if changing the wash regiment (he was very interested in ONR when he saw me use it) will reduce wash induced swirls. No sense going too nuts if it will be swirled up again in few months.
ONR wash, Optimum nano-skin to spot clay (overall the paint was very smooth)
ONR and Optimum Power Clean diluted 3:1 to clean wheels and fenderwells
Meguiars #105 using a 5" Meguiars microfiber cutting pad using my PC 7424 XP
3D HD Polish using an Optimum microfiber polishing pad and my PC
Clearkote Carnauba Moose Wax
Optimum Metal Polish on the tips
Optimum ONR Wash and Wax cut 32:1 to clean the glass
Armor All on tires/fenderwells
Not enough sun on the driveway when we finished to get the car completely into the sun even if we moved my car. Such is life in winter with low sun angles in the late afternoon. There was a huge reduction in the spider swirls and it appears we got all the hazing, paint is noticeably blacker than when we started. It isn't perfect though, 2 good steps on jet black BMW paint won't do that unless its close to swirl free to begin with. But he will be able to park his car next to other jet black BMWs and know his looks better.
