2006 Mazda RX-8 ***TWO POST THREAD***

My buddy, who also owns that Suzuki 750 I did, also owns a 2006 Mazda RX-8 and asked me to detail it for him. I did not hesitate when he asked me and so here she is. First a little explanation. In this I included a MINI How-To write-up for How To use the Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover from someone who wanted to see how I use it. Also, I had to pay special attention to the front headlight as he was backed into and the light was all scuffed and not clear at all. You'll be able to see the before and after pictures below. I asked him about the swirls and what he exactly wanted. He told me he didn't like the swirls but he wasn't too concerned about them at the moment and just wanted a quick coat of wax/polish to shine her up. Reason being he just put rims on her and wanted to show it off a bit. I don't blame him.

He didn't want the interior done, but I did it for him anyways as he's done me plenty of favours and I felt I owned him one.

Please note, the car had never been waxed after he picked it up from the dealer. The paint's condition wasn't to bad in terms of swirls, just very very dirty.

So after picking up the car and bringing it home the process began.

Now here are the pics for you.

Step 1: Wash the car.

How-To Use Bug and Tar Remover!!! I don't think this car had been washed regularly at all.

Some bugs can be a real pain!!! Find out where all the nasty dead bugs are first.

Mazdabefore8.JPG

Take out your weapon: Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover. Give it a shake.

Mazdabefore6.JPG

Spray it all over the areas where the dead bugs are that need to be cleaned!!!!

Mazdabefore8.JPG

Let it sit in for a bit. I usually let it sit in for 30-45 seconds depending!!! Not usually any longer than that!

Mazdabefore8.JPG

This is what happens if you DO NOT WIPE IT OFF properly or a miss a spot. This is that film I was speaking about and what it looks like.

More film shots!!!

So what I do, so that I don't get my mitt full of this, I take a nice clean MF, run it through the two buckets, pick up some soap and clean the areas first, before my mitt gets to it. Once you've completed that, was the rest of your car and you're good to go.

Step 2: Evaluate the paint and the 'bad spots.' And a quick look at the engine. I knew it wasn't too bad so I normally would do that first before washing but it was okay since I was only going to be hand wiping it down. I will apologize for the lack of before photos of just the paint and swirl evidence. The sun wasn't really out and I was just low on time.

Someone backed up into him!!!

Someone wasn't paying attention!!!

Engine wasn't to bad!!! Nothing Hyper Dressing wouldn't be able to handle!!!

Step 3: Prepare Your Paint!!! So I went at it with the clay bar. The picture of the clay in my hands that I am showing is AFTER I did only HALF the hood. Just imagine what it looked like at the end. Brutal. Dirty. Shocked.

Mazdabefore13.JPG

This is after I did only half the hood. I had to stop two times to by the way. While I was spraying the QD, the liquid was instantly turning a brown colour!!! There was so much junk. It felt like sandpaper!!!

A nice wash and the car is ready for the next step.

Step 4: Choose your products and get to work. This is where I choose M66, as he only wanted a quick wax job, but with Buff N Stuff, quick really isn't an option. I wanted to remove as many defects as I could in the little time frame that I had. So M66 with W - 8006 and the G-100, was my choice here, as it helped get about 70% - 80% of the swirls out and cleaned up the finish really NICE. He just got the car. I then followed this up with one coat of M21 by hand and removed it by machine followed by a final wipe by hand.

Step 5: Enjoy all your hard work!!!

The sun came out in time for me to finish and show it off!!!

I did this interior with #40 and a clean MF that came back BLACK, followed by Natural Shine on the dash, door panels, middle console, and then Hyper Dressing on the door trim and couple other little spots to bring the smell into the car. The interior was so dirty (the dash etc...) I didn't think it would be that bad, but it was nothing #40 couldn't handle. I followed it up to give it a nice natural look.

Nice work, especially for a quick one. I can't bring myself to do a real quick job either. Nice shop too. Well written Thread:rockon

Thanks.

I'm not sure I always like the quick ones easy but it is a nice break every once and a while from those big details.
