I wonder if the trim in question is the same as the stuff like that on Audis :nixweiss Assuming it is:
The Audi trim is either clear anodized or clear powdercoated (I get conflicting answers from people at Audi who oughta know) and in either case once it starts clouding it's pretty much irreperable.
If you polish it aggressively enough to remove what's left of the coating, you'll have to treat it like bare aluminum (no thanks).
I just polish it *VERY* gently to lessed the oxidation where the coating is already compromised (won't really look much better but it is a minor improvement) and then apply a very durable LSP (to help slow down the inevitable continued deterioration). Then keep your fingers crossed and reapply that LSP regularly.
I've had such trim replaced before, but for some reason the replacement stuff clouds up even faster, it's like the coating on it is inferior to that on the production-line pieces (Audi replaced the first replacement pieces but when the second set prompty clouded up I just gave up).
