2004 Audi S4 Avant in Metallic Silver

Client had contacted me months ago. He told me that the roof and rear of the car had some tree sap/droppings on it and he wanted the paint to look better. This was an exterior only.

We finally got together a few weeks ago. He made the drive to my place.

Sorry about the lack of pics, but the client was waiting till the car was done. I did not want to keep him any longer then required.

I started out by doing an valu gard ABC paint decontamination wash. I had hoped that this would reduce my claying time on the tree droppings.

I used my foam lance for the valu gard car wash.

I applied P21s wheel cleaning gel and cleaned the wheels with various brushes.

Tires and wells where cleaned with AM 777 APC.

Started claying and that was not removing the tree droppings. I tried some prep solv and 3M adhesive remover. Neither would remove the tree droppings.

Decided to give the micro surface 4k paper dry a try. This was still a slow process, so on the advice of weekend warrior (thanks David!) I tried the 3600 and that worked a little faster. It still did not marr this hard audi clear.

The client gave his sister a call who has a masters degree in Horticulture. She said the droppings are not from the trees, but from the bugs in the trees.

I then did an IPA wipedown prior to polishing.

I compounded the paint with a black lambswool tufbuf pad and Menzerna P0203s, each area took 2 applications to remove the wash induced marring and some light RIDS.

I then did another IPA wipedown to clean the polishing oils from the paint.

I then followed with ZPC on white CCS pad using the Flex 3401 on speed 5.

Two coats of Z2pro with ZFX on the paint and glass.

Z8 on the paint and glass.

Z-16 on the tires.

Tips cleaned up with blue magic metal polish.

Excellant as always! I used Goo Gone on a ten year old Pontiac that had sat under trees for years - it had to soak for 10 minutes or so but it worked, just my 2 cents for today.

JB

Anytime a detail involves an ABC wash, dry sanding and a call to a horticulturalist, you know it is going to be a long day!!!

You really got a lot of depth to the silver!!!

Thanks JB! Tried the 3M adhesive remover on a small area by soaking a paper towel for about 5 mins and letting it sit on the surface. Maybe I should of been more patient. Will give the goo gone a try next time. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks David! As usual it ended up being longer then I thought. :)

Looks nice. :)

How do you like the Flex?

Thanks Bigpoppa! I like it more so then the PC due to how fast it can break down a polish.

What type of foam gun and soap is that pre-soaking?

Good to see one of the locals posting some beautiful results. I still need to protect my Element at some point, I just don't have the entire process down packed yet.

As usual great work Bryan. I'll actually be in ATL around Xmas time for a while. We should grab a cup of coffee or a drink, meeting Autopia people is always a good time.

I had a Volvo last year that had several very aged and dried tree sap (or bug deposit) spots on the roof and hood. Goo Gone and Q-Tips did wonders and I let a few of the tougher spots dwell with Goo Gone for a good 5 minutes. worked perfect. I remember those things being like dried plastic bubbles!

Great looking work Bryan, as always.

Amazing work Bryan! I actually tried those TUFBUF wool pads (3") on the trailer I'm currently working on and they work VERY well with M105. I think I've found my new wool pads to replace the Edge wool pads.

Nice work, doesn't that car have a V8 or am I just wishing?

Brandon

yes it does ... :woot2:

I know that bumper is not the factory one, but I don't think it is the RS4 bumper either. Those lights are also aftermarket (I'm thinking Depo).

I've always been an Audi fan, but I prefer the 2nd gen S4's because they have a stronger aftermarket support.

I wouldn't mind having a wagon like that though ...

Great job

Sweet Wagon! I keep trying to talk my wife into trading our Minvan in for one. I'm glad the sandpaper worked out for you on this project. The car in that color looks incredible.

LOL ... I've been trying to do the same thing with my wife. I've recommended these wagons to her, but she doesn't like any of them.

1. WRX wagon

2. Legacy GT wagon

3. Saab 9-3 SportCombi Aero

4. A4 Avant

5. A6 Avant

I've seen some crazy Subaru wagons that are total sleepers. Perrin and Cobb have a lot of aftermarket parts for them. I can't help that boxer engines produce an awesome exhaust note.

Its actually a foam lance that requires a pressure washer. I used the valugard car wash soap as part of the ABC system. Not as much foam as zaino or CG.

We should do a group meet or something. We can do it at Bryan's house and trash the place! :D
