Having been an autopian for a while now, I think this is my first real detail to post. I would be interested in your comments.

2002 Torch Red Chevrolet Corvette C5 Convertible

17,000 miles

Daily driver, garage-kept, outside during the day

The owner was mainly concerned with getting the pollen-covered interior cleaned up. However, I wanted to get a durable sealant on the vehicle that would be low maintenance. At this time, the owner did not want to do anything as far as swirl and scratch correction. That will come later. As the before pictures show, the exterior was not in bad shape even when I started. The bugs and other gunk did appear to have be permanently adhered. A good scrubbing with the Bug Squash worked well on these problem areas.

On the polish step, I had an issue with the FPII in that it was flashing quickly. I swapped over to AIO and had no problems. Looking back, a self proclaimed professional detailer and quasi-skilled aircraft mechanic, tells me that I should have mixed the FP with RMG to avoid the quick set. I will try that next time.

Looks really good, AIO/Zaino is a really easy and good looking combo.

What specifically was the problem with FPII? I've had great results with 106FF but I haven't tried FPII so any insight would be helpful.

Jim - Time...I hate to admit that one. I started at 9 am, took an hour break or maybe a tad longer and was done at 4. For a quick exterior job (no swirl correction, etc) I think that 6 hours is excessive. I had a good amount of time on the wheels and on the bug removal and that is what killed me.

Scott - Thanks for the compliments, that means a whole lot coming from the master! As for the FPII, it seems to flash really quickly and dry on the surface. I would apply it and within just a few seconds the spots that were a bit thicker would not spread thin as it had already dried into a concrete-like consistency. It was quite difficult to remove at that point. I have not had this problem with the FPII in the past. I have certainly NEVER had it with the 106. I don't know if it was a problem with the humidity (near 100%) or some moisture left in my pad. Bryan tells me to mix it with some RMG so I will give that a shot next time.

Bah...I wouldn't pay you a dime when we have talent like the "smearer" in our neck of the woods!!! ;)

Simple solution for the FPII issue...a spray bottle filled with water. Spritz the pad before you start a section and spritz as need to keep the product wet. FPII has an amazingly long work time using this method.

Excellent work Mr. GT...excellent work indeed. :2thumbs:

I find FPII has a long working time, but IP tends to dry up on me quicker.

I do spritz my pads, and this helps, but the IP still tends to dry quick compared to FPII.

I've used IP twice, and it dried up QUICK both times even with spritzing. I still like it, but boy does it ever get dry quick.

The 'Vette looks awesome.

Scottwax and RAG advised to mix in about 30% RMG with the menzerna line. It will greatly increase the working time and reduces the dust. I have done this with IP, FPII and 106ff. On the next detail that I do that needs severe swirl removal, I will try it with PG as well.
