Saturday I did this 2001 Millenium Yellow Vette. Owner picked it up about a month ago. It has about 30,000 on it and is in very good shape. I knew Vette clear was hard, but I think the marring was much deeper than expected. I started at 8am and finished at 10:30pm. I took two 30 minute food breaks. It kicked my butt! :sign

I have some paint chips he wants touched up, anyone know a good place for M.Y. paint. It is a 3 stage process from GM and most paint shops try to duplicate it in two steps.

Process

Nxt wash

Clay magic clay

Nxt wash

EC/OP Yellow LC 1500-1900 x 3! This actually finished out very nicely

FPII White LC 1000-1200

FMJ

Wheels - soap and water, polished with EO NvrDull

Tires/wells - EO A2Z, dressed with Megs Nxt Tech Protectant(by my buddy who did his Colorado's tires/fenders)

Exhaust tips - EO NvrDull (By my buddy)

John, Excellent work on that PITA vette clear. The final shots look great! How long would you say that you spend on the EC/OP step alone? In the next fews months, I will be again detailing my friends MY 01 Z06. I will be using EC/OP too.

Bryan, I probably spent at least 3-5 hours. It took forever. I spent a good hour on the top alone. It had some extremly deep marring, probably since it is removable. The good news is the owner plans on sending it my way 4 times a year, so I will be able to stay on top of it. He also stuck around to watch and learn from washing to waxing, etc. Since he lives in my apartment complex I told him to call me when he is going to wash it and I will supervise. :chuckle:

Everyone else, thanks for the kind words. This thing beat me up good but the results were stunning. The owners wife (who only thinks of cars as something to drive) said "Wow, it looks more Yellow!" That made my day that she even noticed a difference. :spot

Really lovely work there, and a super glossy finish on the yellow now. The finish looks pin sharp under the lights too, excellent work at removing the swilrs as well. :2thumbs:

Looks unreal! How do you like the Hitachi Rotary? Compare it to anything else? ALso what size pads did you use? 6" or 7.5 concaves? (I saw the pic with the white pad)..

So far so good, I've had it about a month. I am using my LC 6 or 6.5 inch pads (Some are 6 and some are 6.5). I had them already from the PC so I just use them. I might get some 7.5 inch ones, but I don't know yet. The ones I have work with both machines.

For the price $112 shipped from Cali. to VA. I couldn't go wrong.

Thomas, your instruction definitely helped me pick it up as quick as I am. This is what I was doing the entire Saturday :( While you probably did the Sienna in 4 hours.

Lastdetail: The clear definitely sux. I did not anticipate 12 hours. I figured 8-10. The marring was much deeper than I expected.

Everyone else thanks for the comments.

Anyone touch-up a MY Vette? I am still looking for suggestions for the best paint matching.

Turned out incredible! :bow

On a normal car, I'd be amazed how well EC/HC finished out but on Corvette clear, you kind of expect it!

Thanks Scott. Yea, I should have expected it. This was my first Vette that I polished though so I knew it was hard but didn't realize it was that hard. Good news is I will be seeing it about 4 times a year. Should be able to keep it in great shape. I hope to speed up the process on the next one I do.

You did a really great job on that Vette.

The paint looks quite amazing with all the polishing. With the EC/OP mix, would you say the paint was 90% perfect (or higher/lower)? Does the FP make it 10% better, or how much better does the FP make it? Thanks

Regards,

Mike :)

Mike, I'd say the EC/OP got more like 95-97 percent out and finished very well due to the hard clear. Many people would be happy if their car looked that good. If you look at my pics I have sun shots after EC/OP, pics after FPII and pics after LSP. It looked really good after just EC/OP. I don't know exactly how much FPII did for the marring, perhaps any micro marring (But I couldn't see anything) was removed. I think it does add to the color and gloss. You can notice slight differences in the pictures. On other cars there would be a more significant difference between EC/OP and then FPII, since the EC/OP would leave more micromarring. Hard Vette clear lead to my results on this particular car.
