2001 VW Passat: Detailed for a fellow detailer

Yeh, I'm not feeling very creative with titles tonight, sorry.

Anyways, I detailed this Passat for a fellow member today, furnace17 (Dennis), in preparation for a clear bra installation early next week. Dennis is just like you and I. He can find every little defect and it bothers him, so I knew I had my work cut out for me :).

The paint wasn't in terrible shape. The nose (fenders, hood, and front bumper cover) were painted recently and the shop did a very nice job in matching the color and OP (like factory). The rest of the car had moderate swirling and bonded contaminants. The swirling on the nose was from a local car wash who apparently like the abrasive approach. Some of the stuff on the hood was very deep and I did not want to cut extremely hard (I polished it 4 times to begin with) so we had to live with 95-98% of perfect. I touched up a few areas that were chipped and did the other bells and whistles for an exterior detail. My finals were:

-PB SS&S wash
-Optimum Clay with SS&S as lube
-Hi-Temp Heavy Cut via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Menzerna FPII via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Z6 Wipedown
-Z2 Pro by hand on paint and windows
-Z8 Wipedown

-PB Wheel Sealant on Wheels
-Turbo Wax Tire Gel on tires
-Meguiar's Hyper Dressing cut 1:1 in wells
-PB Trim Restorer on all plastic trim

Questions/Comments, feel free.

Grey is one of thos colors that give best of both worlds. Light enough to conceal dirt and defects. Dark enough to give depth and wetness.

looks awesome!

Is that stock suspension. Looks rather high. Is it AWD maybe?

Sean, Do you have any after shots?

JK -It looks excellent, as usual. The next time I go car/truck shopping, I think that's the color I'm going after. Are you doing the bra-installation?

How do you like the Hi-Temp compound vs. PG? Is the dust on par with most other compounds? It looks like it did a nice job, but then again 90% is process and you have that part down.

I see the Teg hiding from winter in the garage :) You'll have to bring her out this week for the rain, sleet, and snow!

John: Heavy Cut is pretty nice compound. It's about a 6 out of 10 for cut with PG being a 8 out of 10 and Hi-Temp Extreme Cut being a 9 or 10 out of 10. Its low dusting and leaves a decent finish (FPII on the polishing pad had no problem removing the haze). This is about the 4th car I've used it on and plan to use it a bit more in the future.

The teg will be out this week, yep. I did the rear brakes today in my warm garage :).
