Paint Ph.D
2001 Mercedes-Benz C320 Sedan

Black - Full Detail by Andrew

This car belongs to my neighbor and he has had it since new. He has had it detailed a few times but up until this summer I did not have the equipment or the know-how to do a full correction. Being an '01 model, this black C320 does not have the hard-as-nails CeramiClear that makes a detailer's life such a living hell. However, the paint is still fairly hard as is typical for German cars and it resisted my polishing attempts.

Process:

Wash:

Washed with MF Pad and Dawn to strip any remaining waxes

Dry with MF Waffle Weave Towel

Clay:

Clayed entire car using Griot's clay and Speed Shine for lubricant

Polish:

Griot's Random Orbital

Menz SIP & LC PFW

Menz 106 & LC White

LSP:

One coat of 4-Star UPP hand-applied - Cured for 1 hour

TIME SPENT: 14 HOURS - I apologize my usual pile o' photos is absent. I had a ton of stuff going on at the house while working on this car so photography took a back seat to everything else.

*Shudders* Somebody dragged something across the trunk lid. :bawling:

Trunk lid itself shares similar damage.

A majority of the contamination came off the lower rocker panels.

IMG_7120.jpg

Old wax and dirt crammed into the logos. :nono

After - About 90% correction was achieved

The hood now...the swirls have left the building.

Cleaned up the trunk badge. This took about 15 minutes and 15 Q-tips...

Thanks for looking! :dance

I think he mentioned "Griot's Random Orbital". Just wondering what made you choose the Griot's over the more popular PC?

Good job on the detail.

Thanks, guys.

I started learning to polish with the Griot's buffer and their polishes/pads. I have since moved up to Menzerna polishes and Lake Country pads but since the Griot's buffer is paid for and does decent work, I'm hanging onto it. I'm working on getting a Makita rotary, as well.
